So I looked at the suburban picture again, appears to only be 4 or possibly 5 pallets on it. Not sure where people are getting 7.

Its definitely tongue heavy, and appears to not have safety chains hooked up. Everything else I've heard is conjecture based on a slightly blurry photo from a distance.

Now if the trailer and truck had farm use tags, a SMV sign and didnt travel over a certain speed (usually 25mph) it would be legal to operate in many rural areas on non-highways.

Is this an optimal load/setup? Nope.
Is it illegal and bound to kill someone? Don't know, not enough info provided to say.

Some of you sound like drunks I've known, who say they should just be allowed to pay the fine and keep on driving, without learning anything. The trucker who killed my uncle and pregnant aunt back years ago (1964) had 3 previous fatalities, and went on to have two more major accidents before finally getting killed himself. That's one reason we have some of the laws we have.

Very sorry to hear of the tragedy that your family suffered.

But, yet, to this day there are still drunks on the road. They shouldn’t be driving if they are impaired. But some people have had one too many which put them slightly over the presumptive limit and are still capable of driving Without impairment. They make it home just fine without any accidents.

Some don’t and they pay the penalty. Quit getting all torqued up about one picture on an Internet forum that appears to show a vehicle which MIGHT cause a problem.

And that doesn’t mean I condone every murder, manslaughter, mayhem and calamity that could possibly ensue from every scenario you could dream up that COULD possibly happen.

Actually. I hate to repeat this, because it's not what I want to believe. But studies have shown that harsh penalties NO NOT deter people from doing wrong.

The death penalty doesn’t even deter most crime it’s aimed at. Many studies abound that have proved that the severity of punishment is not as much of a deterrent as the likelihood of being caught.

And I think some have been done showing that the surety of punishment did work.

Bruce

The surety but not necessarily the severity. Two separate things. Usually the government’s predisposition is to increase the severity of punishment on those behaviors which they are least likely to be able to apprehend before a problem arises.

People will mostly avoid a no parking zone when the fine may be less than $50 when they know from experience that the parking enforcement is strict but tow over weight almost with impunity as long as they know it’s not likely to cause a problem and the police are rarely checking even if the potential fine is $ thousands$.
