As I was getting fuel today, this pulled up on the other side of the island. 029F990E-3AE6-49CC-A455-F5B357529903.png
Hmmmm... So we had a short conversation:
Me : Sir, did you know you are missing your dust caps?
Him: Yea, I have been meaning to get some new ones.
Me: Pretty hard on bearings to let dirt in.
Him: Those are pretty new bearings.
Me, to myself: probably will do no good to offer the use of my tire gauge... out of state plates, so he probably went righ back to highway. I should have shot a temp on his hubs and tires.

Many years ago, I went with my dad to look at a 14 foot boat. The bearing caps looked like pepper shakers, when asked the guy selling it proudly proclaimed that he'd done that to let water out.
We bought the boat, but stopped at Western Auto on the way home for new caps.

...just after he passed me, the trailer jumped off the hitch (no safety chains), rolled forward just a bit, then the tongue hit the road and that thing was spinning and rolling everywhere in front of me.
Wow! You were lucky to avoid it.

Not quite as serious but we were stuck in a mile long traffic jam 40 miles east of San Francisco, on westbound 5 lane wide I-80. We finally worked up to the front of that mess and saw skidmarks all over the place for hundreds of feet. Then a VW bug that had skidded off the right side - backward - and made it to the far side of the ditch. Then a little farther a pickup parked, towing an empty 2-wheel car dolly.

That must have been real exciting when that driverless VW took off on its own in the middle of heavy 70 mph traffic. I didn't see that anyone had rear-ended another car but it seemed that could have been likely.

I saw a guy leaving Lowe’s with a load of lumber on a rickety homemade trailer. The lumber only stuck off the back about a foot. He took the time to tie on a least 5 red flags but not a single strap on the load.

I tried to get a picture, but I passed them too quickly. I saw a huge sectional sofa, the kind that fits in a corner, on top of an old minivan. They had put a comforter on top of the van so it would not get scratched. They were on city streets near apartments.

I saw this guy at Lowe’s. It’s always fun in the loading area.

Thinking outside the box to get something done isn't necessarily wrong.

Those are probably more secure then in the back of most people's pickups!
A lot of cars don't have the passthrough in the trunk anymore, I had an 07 Accord hybrid, the battery was behind the back seat so no passthrough. Really missed that option.
