1000# in a car is no worse than 3 250# passengers and 250# of luggage in the trunk...

It’s quite a bit worse because one of the 3 passengers was still in the car and 4 passengers would distribute the load a lot better. But it probably wasn’t a gross overload.

From what I found, a 2000ish Volvo S70 TDI is rated for ~1000# of people and cargo, so 1000# of cargo plus a driver probbaly isn't that much overloaded (especially if it has the heavy duty rear springs in the back).

And U now need a new suspension!

Needed that anyways, after 500.000km, and the occasional 10k trailer, the rear springs got a little saggy. I replaced them with those of a stationwagon, but i should have taken the heavy duty ones for a stationwagon because i have a lot of junk in the trunk all the time. My ball coupler was 8 centimeter lower than the ISO standard requires

The other day we were on a back road when this pulled in front of us. Followed down the back roads until we reach Interstate 79 and they got on. Couldn't see a single strap nor a license plate on the trailer. Hope they made it where they were going without killing anyone....

Hard to tell due to the blurry pictures, but that looks a lot like a shed hauling trailer. On a lot of them the straps are under the trailer and dont always go over the top. Because they slide and dump the tag is usually closer to the axles and not visible when loaded.

Buddy just had a shed moved and this looks very similar to how his was done. Truck appears to have positioning dollies on it and it has a proper oversize load sign on it so I'm guessing it's a company.

I’ve moved a few sheds and always strapped from the bottom and you probably wouldn’t see the straps driving by. Strapping over the top would take a ridiculously long strap and probably wouldn’t be very secure anyway.
