They had a guy break out of jail in town. Stole a truck and proceeded to drive through a ditch, up a 4ft incline and hang the truck dead center on the train tracks. Balanced on the frame with front and rear tires off the ground.

Luckily it was a feeder track to reach some businesses and not the main line across the road

Also conveniently the truck was stolen from a local repair shop/ towing company so after the police were done, they backed up to the tracks with the roll back and snatched it off.

Guy then tried car jacking a little old lady driven a Volkswagen beetle. Lady smoked him with her car :D

Love it!

That poor lady took the same conceal carry class as my wife and I the next day. She was pretty upset about the ordeal and blaming herself for hurting him.

That POS was a rapist being extradited back to Missouri.

It took a bit for the class to get her to understand she did the right thing.

There used to be a guy who ran around in a 1980s Chevy 3500 CCLB DRW pickup that was setup with airbags ( I assume it was airbags at least). He could just about lay the frame rails on the ground.
I worked with an enthusiast like that who told me the term when it goes aground is 'Catch some fire!!!'.

As for the boat motor. I don't know who is more stupid. The driver, the guy who engineered the operation, the owner of that stupid truck (with the two foot box, meant for a house plant, not a motor) or the people laughing when it went (probably expensively) wrong.

I would vote for the idiot who punched the accelerator. I've never been married, yet even I was not at all surprised at the women laughing when the process went wrong.

The boat engine removal was such a comedy of errors, it deserved a belly laugh or 10. Stupid is as stupid does. I am not immune from such idiocy and can still laugh at myself on those occasions.

I did something quite stupid (and expensive) recently, and can (kind of) laugh about it looking back, but laughing was definitely not my first gut reaction when it happened.

I normally cry before I laugh.

I hate when mine suggests any project of a structural nature and I just crinnnnnge.... honey, let me think about how to best accomplish your dreams there.
And defy gravity while you are at it!

Hanging off the tailgate no. On the tailgate yes. Concretely bags on a tailgate are high friction. Have you ever tried to slide one?

If your truck uses cables to hold the tailgate up rather than the steel straps of old, be advised they tend to collect water in the middle of the strap since it's one big U when the tailgate is up and they rust inside the cosmetic plastic coating. Using the tailgate as a shelf is risky since hitting bumps changes a heavy static load into a very heavy dynamic load. I've seen them break which is why I switched my truck over to the old style steel straps that are as strong today as they were when new decades ago.
