Same with people, some are wired differently than others. Some differences are genetics, some is environment, some are truly unique situations that have no real explanation. Only thing we can go by are the numbers. Pits have attacked far more people than any other dog, and far more of those attacks have resulted in deaths. Any owners should be able to accept this as fact and care for their animal properly or accept whatever consequences there are for not properly attending to their responsibility.

#1. Pit bull
Attacks doing bodily harm: 3,397
Deaths: 295
Pit bulls are a dog type that encompasses several breeds such as the American Staffordshire Terrier and Bull Terrier. These dominant and powerful dogs, made headlines a staggering 3,397 times with harmful attacks resulting in 295 deaths over the 32 year period of the study.

#2. Rottweiler
Attacks doing bodily harm: 535
Deaths: 85
The Rottweiler is very territorial and can exhibit jealous behavior in its mission to protect its owner. Rotties are also so active that they can be bored and annoyed easily. Between 1982 to 2014, 535 harmful attacks were reported involving this breed and 85 attacks resulted in death.

21 dogs that have attacked the most people

*repoerted bites

Small yappy dogs “bite” people all the time but they don’t get reported due to very minimal damage. When a pit-bull bites it’s damaging. It’s all a numbers game. Shoot, 37 people annual get killed my lightening. That’s literally 100% preventable. They sell monitors. Phones will let you know but it’s not all over the news.

You left out a very important statistic... Pitt bulls are the breed of choice when it comes to Service Animals... at least here.

I have always had a no pet policy but half the tenants have Pitt bulls under the service animal exception and getting a Doctor's Note is as easy as asking...

At one time I have had my Insurance Company audit rentals looking for prohibited breeds... since then there has been an explosion of the Pitt population here in the Oakland/East Bay...

I never "left" that out. It simply wasn't part of the statistics in the article. Although I do gotta say, a "service pit" is something at the oil change place. Pitbulls as service dogs would be a first for me.

From Pethelpful.com

The most common breed referred to as the pit bull dog is the American Pit Bull Terrier. It is actually a cross between terriers and a breed of bulldog. These Pit Bull Terriers were first brought to the United States in the late 1800痴 from Staffordshire, England, where they were initially bred. There are actually two strains of this breed. The first strain was originally used as guard dogs and for dog fighting. They were bred for stronger and stockier bodies.

When they were brought to the United States and dog fighting became banned, there was another strain of the pit bull dog developed. It is a more mild mannered, smaller framed dog and was used to hunt, drive livestock and as family pets. The pit bull was actually the symbol of American strength and courage during World War I!

Unfortunately, the wrong kind of people are still finding the first strain of the pit bull dog attractive as guard dogs for illegal activities. They are stoutly built dogs with square heads and firms jaw lines and a very ominous appearance. In the wrong hands, the pit bulls are trained to protect their owners during illegal activities such as drug deals. They are trained not to let ANYONE come near their owners or their property. Many of them are not being trained to warn their owner or to keep the stranger at bay, they are being trained to attack and kill whoever or whatever comes near. They are being trained to be aggressive.

Perhaps a kindly moderator will remove the dog posts or move them to a separate thread.

I agree, this topic could use its own thread.
I do have to comment that I think it is somewhat funny  that some of the people who complain the most about people going off topic are some of the worst offenders! :D

Conversation has a tendency to wander. That is just the nature of conversation. The ones complaining must be from Germany...

No, you cannot talk about dogs in a towing thread!
