Quit trying to be "rational" with your "facts." Don't you know we are "post-truth" now. :drink:

Going 75+ mph on IH35 between Austin and San Antonio with one thin, weather beaten, strap. When I was behind it the way it was vibrating is what caught my attention.

Somewhere around here the morning commute traffic reporter calls his updates 'The morning ladder report' due to the number of fallen ladders disrupting traffic near daily.

Learned a trick from a young trucker friend of mine. If you don't want your straps to vibrate in the wind, make sure each segment has a half twist in it (or more). That kills the aerodynamics that set up the vibrations.

Straps that are vibrating in the wind are straps that are working loose.

The left side looked like it may have had a twist. Probably not intentional.

The ladder itself was vibrating.

A similar trick, if you have roof rack crossbars that are humming/buzzing at speed, is to spiral wrap a rope around them a couple times. Will break up the flow structure causing the noise -- same phenomena that is making those straps vibrate.

Note that the rear trailer is leving skid marks, but the rest of the rig isn't leaving any tracks. I think this supports Eric's analysis.

From another forum, my understanding is that the air/electric cords to the second trailer were broken. The brakes were locked up and the there were not trailer lights. the first trailer had air and lights. Basically, they towed a disable trailer down the hill so as to not block a busy road. The ice made it possible with little to no damage.

Seen in Oklahoma City Oklahoma I-35 at about 65 mph to 70 mph. Wheels on this log splitter looked smaller than my wheelbarrow tires. About 3:30 pm in the afternoon so traffic was flowing pretty well. The Ford 4 x 4 did seem to be able to handle the load and tow it just fine.
