I haul my B7200 short distances in a similar manor.

You don't need seatbelts, airbags, or parachutes, either, until you REALLY need them.

Same with equipment tiedown chains. Not much time to put them on seconds before the accident.

CADplans, I'm pretty sure that 'may' have been stretching the definition of Virginia's FARM USE tags - "operating along a highway for a distance of no more than fifty (50) miles from one part of the owner's land to another, irrespective of whether the tracts adjoin"

I'm thinking strap it down. Stuff has a way of launching out the back or in an accident, launching over the front. See photo below.

Possibly, your quote is not the entire law,,??
My nephew delivers sod all over the entire state of Virginia on Farm Use tags. He has like 20+ tractor trailers.
On the other hand,, you may be entirely correct, Hmmmm

Interesting situation,, my nephew was driving one of those tractors that they had recently purchased.
The truck had an expired inspection sticker. (inspection is not required on Farm Use tagged vehicles)
A police officer stopped him, and was preparing to write a citation for an expired inspection.
My nephew explained that he had farm use tags,,
The police officer was upset that she would not get to write the citation,, but, let him go.
She did make him scrape the expired sticker before he proceeded,,,

The trailer has a toolbox on the front,, in that toolbox is the trailers Virginia "permanent" plate.
I switched to Farm Use tags to eliminate the need for annual inspection of a trailer I use 6 times a year.

If "one part of the owner's land to another" were the entire law,, the sheriff could make a fortune any
Saturday morning from all the non-farmers hauling trash to the waste transfer station!! :confused2:

Almost all the trailers, and 25% of the pickups are Farm Use tagged.

We have 6 chickens,, and a donkey,, per our county,, I qualify as a "farmer",,!!

You can't have anything loose in the back of your p/u here, never mind in a trailer. Fines, Fines, Fines! You can however, have a Cummins Block sitting loose under your vinyl tonneau cover though.
