I saw a guy towing a boat a few days ago. He had the three factory straps plus about 5 two inch ratchet straps across the boat. It was only a small boat.

He learned the method by watching the railroads. Bruce <img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/files/trailers-transportation/439478-share-pics-people-hauling-towing-gravelstraps-jpg"/>
I have seen this picture before. The conclusion was it was possible the straps were there as a safety precaution to keep the side dump doors from falling open.

Yep... secondary means of retention. This is getting to be more and more of a requirement should a system fail due to corrosion, fatigue, etc.

Enough said!

Chris

He's tying the sand down so that the pile doesn't slide. That keeps the JoBox in place (which does NOT appear to be tied down!)

Last night a Tarp started to blow off of a semi in front of me. rubber cords flying all over the road. I slowed way down and the truck soon pulled over before it was all gone. imagine a tarp flying back and covering your windshield.

Yesterday a small dump truck was towing a flatbed in the center of town with a Kubota 121 excavator squarely in the middle with no straps, chains, or weightlifters holding it down. Dumpass for sure !

This just happened today on Highway 59 in Gillette Wyoming, where I-90 crosses. The boom on the trackhoe was not secured and hit the bridge. Initial damage estimate exceeds $1,000,000. If you click on the picture, it will expand. I'm not sure how to make it bigger.

the pic is unclear on the issue.

was it merely just too tall of a load, or was the boom lifted and free floating or 'bouncing'?

if it was just too tall when loaded, then secured or not meant nothing to it striking the bridge.
