This was actually me before our recent camping trip. Me, wife, 4 girls (ages 7-15) and 2 y.o. boy... we needed the space! Even the suburban was not enough, last year we used my home-built hitch hauler, but this year had more to bring. I had put another receiver on the rear for possible bike-rack but decided this year to use a little trailer I had sitting around. I picked it up for practically free a few years ago and really haven't had a use for it... until now. Had to put new tires and wiring on it though. It actually drove much better this way vs. putting all the weight on the hitch carrier.

We are back now without issue, and thought maybe you would get a kick out of it. The trailer only weighed about 500 lbs (maybe). My only real worry was that I couldn't get the safety chains to the factory hitch, but because I was using an adjustable w.d. hitch, the were some adjstment holes to hook them on... not exactly perfect but I felt safe with it.

Wasn't able to get a pic of the yahoo hauling a trailer behind a flat bed with two empty tanks and a Vermeer something or another piece of equipment on his flatbed. There was a piece of 1 1/2" ~ 2" pipe hanging about 4~5 feet off the passenger side of the flatbed at about mailbox height. He turned in front of me going the same direction on a road I turned onto. I followed for about a mile at 50 MPH before deciding to pass because I wasn't sure what else was rolling around unsecured on the truck or trailer. Once ahead of him I set my cruise @ 60~61 MPH only to have him catch up to me within 3 or 4 miles and ride my bumper while flashing bright lights until he turned off another 3 or 4 miles down the road. Apparently in his dimwitted opinion I was supposed to be content driving 5 MPH below the speed limit while waiting to dodge whatever he was going to clip and knock loose on the side of the road with that pipe.

I have done a lot of loads that weren't really dangerous, but are weird enough to make people look twice...Lets just say I spend a lot of time at the Working Load Limit of my equipment....

Below are a pair of Triumph Tr3's and a couple flathead ford engines in one shot, a '29 Model A roadster pickup plus half of another model A, one third of a Plymouth Volare (rare 4 speed/Super Six parts car) and a ton of shelves. Oh, and 6.2 tons of gravel in modified C30 dump.
