I once saw an evasive maneuver performed that I am almost certain no AI programmer would ever consider. Humans are both smarter and dumber than machines. I don't know what the solution is, but pooling insurance across a large number of people seems to help exacerbate the tendencies of poor driving in/by many.

I drive paranoid. I drive like "'they' are out to get me." I actually had an incident when I was young in which driving down the highway with really no other cars around except one that was off the road going in the other direction started on to the roadway and then just kept coming at an angle right at me and across the center line! No collision, but had I not been on top of things I might not be here today: I was driving someone else's car; that person, who was inebriated, was in the passenger seat- I took that trip because I knew that he shouldn't be driving.

What I really don't get, is there is absolutely no benefit to tail gating and only risk. You aren't going to get there any faster!

Just saw a movie on the old P.I.E,, Pacific Intermountain Express Company of the 50s. Drivers could not exceed 50mph, had a data logger and despite tight schedules, were REQUIRED to help motorists in distress/broken down.

That company rebuilt all its own fleet down to the smallest components in their own shops. LOTS of jobs! Curious what happened to it. Maybe deregulation of the trucking industry.

But boy, how society has devolved!

It's all about stress. Seems that we've been conditioned to be in a state of constant stress. The tailgater will get by you only to then have to tailgate someone else. They're living their entire lives like this!

Back in my corporate-world days I got sick hearing "time management" over and over... Eventually, however, I realized the importance of thinking in such terms. There's no hurry or stress if you had an infinite amount of time. Well, we cannot get an infinite amount of time, BUT, we can better manage our times (prioritize).

I wonder what effect the numerous video generations have on driving style. I am sure, much. And I even say, if you want to drive aggressively, go for it. Just pass me already. They are probably a much better driver with better vision and reaction times than me.

But more often than not, the tailgater is an older person. Maybe their brain has simply rotted away preventing any intelligent thought.

I find that the chronic tailgaters are younger females. (though I recently had an older female driving a BMW SUV tailgate the crap out of me) Older folks in my area seem to be the ones that I get behind (though not tailgate) which results in attracting the tailgaters on MY behind!
