But yet, to this day, U-Haul won't rent you a trailer for an Explorer due to the Firestone tire fiasco.

U-Haul also will not sell their used trailers. They are worried about the legal consequences of some idiot using the trailer incorrectly and causing an accident and even though it would not be owned by U-Haul their name may still be on it. For this reason they destroy all the trailers that they take out of service.

I would jump on that deal in a heartbeat.

I paid 7k two years ago for basically the same truck, but with the 4.2 and no body damage, and am very happy with it. It is starting to show some rust, and I've replace the tires, shocks, brakes, the alternator and a serpentine idler (and the belt because of that) and the front stereo speakers. Basically just normal wear and tear stuff for a truck a dozen years old. Keep on top of the little stuff like that and it should last you a good long while.

I'm thinking this too... it's just the reaction I got from the family kind of set me back...

Maybe the local vocational school want to take it one for a project?

I do know a good body shop and will probably have it looked at just to get a number... it does not have to be perfect... infact, making it perfect would mean I could not use it for a work truck!

My neighbor took a car he bought with a salvage title to the local vocational school. They fixed it up like new and he only had to pay for parts, so that's an option. With only 42k on it, that sounds like a great truck for $2k. The engine and tranny alone would be worth that in a junk yard.

I own a UHaul camper trailer. They made about 2000 and sold them to the public when they quit renting them. Just Google it.

UHaul has also sold some car trailers in the past and they sell replacement parts for them online.

Truck runs good... did notice it is in need of rear shocks... a little bouncy at the rear at freeway speeds when going over a bump.

I would pass if it had frame damage or rust... luckily the damage is sheet metal with no front or rear collisions...

I did notice it is runs real quiet and front visibility is great compared to my 96 F150

Depends on the exact damage.

I just repaired some frame damage:
http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/trailers-transportation/334620-ranger-repairs.html

Put about another 8,000 miles on it, and just sold it a week ago after buying a new truck (which has the biggest engine in a vehicle I have owned since I got rid of my IH 345 back in '82)

Some problems come from age rather than mileage, but sounds like a decent "work truck" deal to me if you are in need of a work truck.

If you don't really have a need for it, then it might be wiser to hang on to the cash.

That body style has some of the best vitality ever in my family. My dad does construction so he burns through trucks kinda fast and he has always had a few truck. Out of all years he's had of anything those 97-03 ford's were the best for visibility and the newer duramax is the worst

It was a surprise to me... it was like I had unlimited visibility...

$50 for shocks. Get it.

I had a 2001 F250 quad cab diesel. Loved that truck. I too put a gash along the passenger side - old concrete light stanchion at a demo site that I didn't see in a downpour.

Have a buddy that does bodywork out of his home shop. Only charged $450, and that included using a porta power to straighten the nerf bar. That was 10 years ago, but a heckuva deal.

Buy it!! Wish I still had that truck.
