I've read something like 40% of Americans would find a thousand dollar unexpected expense devastating.
Thats the financial culture of the country, where most people buy on credit.
Here in Europe you wouldnt be able to make a real life TV show about vehicle reposession officers, because there is no such profession here. We have general bailiffs here, but none specialised in only vehicle reposessions.

When buying on credit is less generally accepted, there are less dumb ones getting in trouble by buying sh't they cant afford...

I do have trouble with paying an unexpected expense, although thats mentally, not financially 🤣
But most people in Europe rent if I remember correctly,
Not getting the benefit from home ownership and depend more on the government retirement payments?
In the US we are mostly forced to invest since our Social Security won't cover the cost of living in most areas.

We had a 5 car accident across the river on a 35 mile an hour road, tailgating and inattention with one driver trapped in the car. The police don't think anyone was speeding.
4 cars going in one direction and one car from the other as the last car in the line hit the other 3 and driving one into the oncoming lane.

If it's 20' long ... Looks like maybe 8' tall ... But has 12 steps which go up about 5' above ground, to a platform and a tiny dog sized door ... ?

Or did ai photoshop it? 😂
I did a little poking around on this. It's not clear where that monster RV came from but it's just a CGI concept. It supposedly has three sets of 18 or 20 inch wheels so it's clearly not 20 feet long. What Mazda does actually have is a prototype RV on a CX-9 chassis that looks pretty conventional and is probably about 20 feet long.

Back when I used to work in Germany, my late-20's into early 30's, the guys over there thought it was absolutely crazy that I had bought my first house at age 23. They claimed at the time that the average age for first home purchase was at least mid-40's, if not later.

They do rely less on credit and financing, but there's both good and bad, coming with that.

My mother lived with my wife and I for her final years. She did not much care for our horses. Her desire was to be cremated and having her ashes spread in some flowers.

We had a quiet area set aside where we buried horses, dogs and cats. There were wildflowers in the area. Guess where we spread her ashes? Our minister came over to say a prayer with us that day. He being a bit of a practical joker got a chuckle out of that.

I don't look down on people who don't have much, but I am realistic about why most of them are in that situation. If you make $40,000 a year, you buy a new $1,500 cell phone on credit every year, you buy cars new and only care about the size of the payments, you get drunk every weekend and show up to work broke every Monday, you never invest or save, and you think only of yourself, not your employer, when you're at work, you can't expect great results over the long term.

I needed to have my yard fixed. I called a guy. A man about 30 years old showed up in a nice truck. We looked around the yard, and he told me what we should do. Gave me all kinds of suggestions. Recommended a tree guy.

We hit it off, and he told me about his situation. He's the CEO. He has employees. His net worth (assets minus liabilities, not the cost of the things he hasn't paid for yet) at the time was around a million. He got it by fixing people's yards, expanding his business, and taking risks, like being responsible for hourlies whose biggest risk is getting fired.

He wasn't born to a rich family. Just a regular guy.

I called the tree guy. He was around the same age as the yard guy. He showed up with maybe $500,000 in equipment and a bunch of employees. I gave him $7,500 to work a day and a half. He sat in his expensive grapple loader and gave orders while the hourlies who chose not to start businesses did the hard work.

Blue-collar guy. Didn't have an MBA, law degree, medical degree, or rich dad.

He stepped up. He put himself in the crosshairs. He has to wrestle with creditors, customers, the government, and potential lawsuits from his own employees. He has to do all the planning and marketing. His hourlies go home and smoke dope in front of the TV.

The neighbor across the street has a home that has to be worth a million dollars. There is no way he's over 35. He has a land-clearing business. He is not educated. I see him going in and out all the time with a wheel loader on a trailer.

In addition to his business, he bought and transformed his farm. He cleared a pasture. Cleared his yard. Put up new fences. Build a beautiful pole barn for his equipment. Even keeps pigs and cattle. The pigs are so clean, I didn't know they were there until he told me.

I could tell true stories like this all day.

Tell me more about the haves and their snobbery.

I never get angry at people who have more than I have. God bless them. Most of them deserve it much more than I do. I have things like shelter, roads, medical care, heat, air conditioning, and good food because of them, not because of hourlies. They invented things and patented them. They built factories. They accepted the burdens of leadership. They pay most of my taxes and yours. The hourlies never start anything. They just show up to reap the benefits.

I hope Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos get twice as rich as they are now.
