Sadly that was in my yard for a bit. One of the contractors putting conduit into our neighborhood. Fiber to get pulled soon.

2500 series truck. IBC tote is empty in the photos but is usually full. That's 2,300lbs alone in the back of the bed + other junk has it well over weight before you get to the trailer. Bent 2" receiver extension in the hitch. Not a chain on the directional boring rigs on the trailer.

Only good thing is they really don't go above 25mph on the dirt roads.

This guy passed me on US33 today. Had a 5th wheel on the back of the truck and was pulling a wedge trailer with three camper trailers on it. I wonder how far he'll make it before a DOT check objects to the securement of a fuel tank with ratchet straps.

Not saying they’re legal, but I see ratchet strap secured tanks pretty often.

This kind of stuff makes me wish their right to be on the road was pulled. So I have to wonder, is the owner a penny pincher that will not spend the money to be safe and legal? If thats not it, then they need to find a new occupation that they know how to do better. It appears they are not able to make a living and a profit at what they are doing.

I'm not sure that the tank three posts above was in use. It looks more like he was just transporting it, as the truck is equipped with saddle tanks.

Hope so. Seems like it would be acceptably secured for empty tanks. It does look like a shorter range truck & sounded like it was doing longer range hauling hauling. Odd that it would be hauling trailers & fuel tanks.

They would be more likely to hit him for lack of edge protection as anything else. Short of that a 100 gallon tank would hold around 750 pounds of fuel and the tank probably weighs 200 so it’s way under the working load of 2 3300 pound WILL straps.

Or it was to fill the saddle tanks with, wonder if it was a 1 way trip (pickup a truck, trailer and campers, then resell all or most of them at the destination), seems like a lot of truck for a hotshotter hauling camper trailers (unless they plan to add a flatbed and haul a 4th camper on the flatbed), hope it has better gearing than most of those trucks get, or it will be limited to 55-60MPH by the engine redline.
Either way, some edge protection for the straps hitting the mounting flanges on the tank would go a long way.

The one we had at the shop with a roll back deck was geared so high it was ridiculous. Could have gotten 80 to 100mph out of it. Computer wouldn't let the truck go over 65 mph though.

Truck was really miserable when it came to hills. And horrible trying to back it up where you needed a light touch. I swear that truck would do 20mph in reverse.

You were either flying backwards in it or stalling it out.

Someone must have re geared it and went extreme with it. Those trucks are all slow from the factory.
