I can appreciate the effort and ingenuity in what was done here. I also am thinking that someone let their desires override their common sense. A lack of concern for their on saftey and others on the road would seem to be a issue also.
It's tied to the roof rack with decent rope. The only risk is to the interior of the vehicle. It's not heavy enough to come through the seats in any survivable crash. It won't fall out. Some people need to make do with what they have.

Yeah, I don't think many parachutes use that stuff. That's just rope.

Sure they would, on a farm grade parachute. 😲

It’s also tied several times to the “shock absorbers” holding up the hatch back. Not seeing the hatch back tied up in a fixed position, so what happens when it bounces down toward closure and allows slack in the lines holding up the panels. It’s also up and over the top of the head rests. It also shows nothing preventing over 600 pounds from shifting forward under a sudden stop. They weigh move than some people might think and can have a lot of momentum under a sudden stop. Best deal on this set up is the effort made to flag it. It’s amazing how many do not.

I am sure a DOT officer would take the need to make do under consideration.

I also have had to make do, same as many have. Learned the hard way a few times also. However I do not intentionally do anything that might hurt someone or cause a accident while doing so. Thats been one of the interesting things about this thread. Lots of information presented that one might overlook, easy to learn from things we see on here.

A couple loops of that rope through the mesh and to the latches for the tailgate would keep it from going forward very nicely and wouldn't take more than a foot or two of rope.

Then you could also tie the tailgate down or almost down to it to reduce its possibility of movement.

Well, this does not quite fit the topic, but I somehow feel it is sufficiently in sync with the topic.

I guess this probably qualifies for towing wrong.

It's an 8 foot piece of metal roofing. Not sure if it's wrong or just making due with what he has. He had a coat between the hatch and the roofing. Not tied down but the front was down by the bottom of the front seats and about 3/4 of it was inside.
