1. Rhino has a 4150 which you can get the optional deck rings. Watched a video about them and the claim was you didn't need the deck rings because of the distance between the blades and the deck. They can't hit the deck at all unless you near bend them in half. (not really in half)

This had me wondering simply from a functional CUTTING point of view.... if you take two versions of the same model mower over the same land....one with deck rings, one without.... would the unit without deck rings allow the grass to be suctioned up better for cutting OR, might the deck rings provide a focused area for the grass to be suctioned up better? In other words, forget about protecting the deck.....how does the ring help or interfere with the actual process of cutting?

2. How would you compare the Rhino to a Schulte 15' (I think it was XH 1500)

3. Regarding Schulte, would putting double blades (chopper?) on it actually cut GRASS better or is that more for beating up & pulverizing stalks when cleaning a field? I sometimes have the fields here about waist high and get two conflicting thoughts.... one, the double blades would help mulch things up....and the other is the double blades might get entangled easier and take more power to keep running efficiently (through waist high grass/weeds)

I like the way manufacturers are smoothing out the top deck so stuff can fall off easier.

Just to be clear. Are you talking finishing or rough cut mowers?

My ALAMO Flex Wing really wound out and had deck rings. Good suction. It was all rear discharge. Are all flex wings rear discharge?

I'm referring to (what should be heavy duty) rotary cutters, not finish mowers.

I sort of thought that when you got into the heavier mowers, they simply called them batwing. Flex wing sounds light weight like a finishing mower.

I can't imagine much suction with the slower speed brush/field mower.

Oh, don't be a RICHARD (I figure I can get away saying that)

We all know what a deck ring is.... it's what gets inserted through our noses when we get married so our better halves can better control us.

No??

Okay, I guess I'll just "wing it".

1. A Stump Jumper pan is usually 18" in diameter. A cutter without a stump jumper pan uses a heavy flat bar 18" long. The two blades on each spindle either fasten to the pan or the flat bar depending on type. So, it I have a 6' single spindle cutter it uses two blades approximately 27" in length. The blades are the same whether the cutter has a pan or not. All of the cutting is done on the outer 6-8" of the blade. All the rest of the blade length and pan width or flat bar length is simply used to swing the blade. All of the "lift" is created at that outer 6-8" of blade if they are lift blades. If they are flat blades there is no lift. No difference in cut will be noticed between a cutter with pan or without.

2. I'm not familiar with the two cutters you are comparing.

3. I think all double blades are going to do is mulch material by cutting it in smaller lengths.
