I think you should also be changing out the hydraulic fluid and filters + front axle fluids. I think these were supposed to be changed at 50 hrs according to the manual.

Doing a service on the M is more involved than the GL or MX, but I'm sure you've done harder ones. We lost a lot of fluid when my son did ours on the M8540 and will be better prepared next time.

When not changing the hydraulic oil also, I have finally settled on the process of draining the hydraulic oil "clean catch" into a 66 quart Sterilite container. Then after the filter change, I pump it back in with a GoatThroat pump. Risk of contamination is very low. If you are trying to quick change the filters, having a spare set of magnets to install beforehand into the replacement filters will make the switch faster (and you can make sure that you clean them well because you are not rushing to get it done.).

If not changing hyd oil insert a shop vac nozzle in hyd oil filler hole and when shop vac is running very little oil will be lost while changing hyd filters.

Yeah, we learned we were not quite quick enough to skip draining or vacuum.

I think it poor engineering on Kubota's part for needing to drain hyd oil or use means such as shop vacuum in order just to change hyd filters. I've owned and repaired other tractor brands that one can change hyd filters and only loose VERY LITTLE hyd oil. IMHO this is very important if one is in the FIELD away from any shop and hyd filter requires changing.
