Service manual

Hi,
It seems to me that by now either Montana or someone in the after market would have produced a decent service manual for our tractors.

If you look on eBay you always find service manuals either paper or c/d's for all the other major brands.

Just getting tired of trying to make sense of the factory owners manual.

Maybe one of you guys with the time and experience could produce a good manual.
I know there must be a market for this as many of these tractors that have been sold.
Might be a good business venture for someone with the know how.

Any thoughts??

You are so correct!!! I look at my manual not so much as a service manual, but more like reading a comic book, written by a Korean who didn't understand English too well!!

I went out mowing pastures the other day and had to just sit there a minute and finish laughing before getting started. I went to engage my PTO, and noticed what that little sticker by the PTO switch said. " Disengage PTO before starting engine. If PTO engaged, tractor no go" ( or something real close to that)

I felt like I should be sitting in a Japanese restaurant or something, ordering "flied lice" rather than be mowing my pastures!!

I am curious how dealers do repairs on the montana tractors. Most service manuals have torque specs and adjustment specifications. I have been assured on numerous occasions that there is not a technical manual available and I believe that. I am just curious how the dealers handle not having one.

FYI, Montana has produced a wonderful shop manual for my 3040 / 3440. Its ~200-300 pages, and nicely written and illustrated.

No, I contacted Montana directly for the service manual. I believe that this is a brand new product. This is definitely different than the small Korean/English hybrid users manual that was shipped with our tractors.

What did it take to get it, just a phone call? You need a serial number from the tractor or anything?

Are you a dealer. Montana used to have a policy that they only dealt with dealers except on warranty issues. If your tractor was under warranty they would fix it but you could not buy anything directly from them. I am excited that you got a regular service manual I will be contacting montana later this week and if they have service manuals for my 4940C

I called montana today. They do have a service manual for the 4940C tractor. The parts person said it covers 4530, 4920, 4940 etc.
I dont know the cost yet and just like I mentioned in the Previous post they would not send it out to me. They only work with dealers. They did however tell me they had it and gave me the number.

I will let everyone know what I think of the manual when I recieve it

quick follow up to my last post. It looks like the dealer charged me 54.65 for it

I now have the Manual for my Montana tractor. There was a bit of a mixup when someone put the wrong manual in the package that was mailed to me. I called the dealer that had ordered it for me and they got me the right manual within 2 days. and that includes having it shipped to me.


My manual is an SMT1005A According to the front it is for the
4320, 4340,4320c, 4340c,4920,4920c, 4940, 4940c.

I am very pleased it goes over the breakdown and putting parts back together well and it covers the the entire drive train plus the hydraulics, power steering, wireing etc. The only thing I did not see that it covered was the cab and the airconditioning. I am not suprised that they are not included in the manual. Everything else is covered pretty well from what I see.

After reading the previous post in this thread, I called Montana Tractor to get a part number for a 5740C manual.
Well, they said yes there is one available. But after looking, they couldn't find a part number for it.
They suggested that I call my dealer and get him to find the part number and order it for me.
I'm still waiting to hear from him to see if he found a part number??

LOL So the manufacturer who issues part numbers could not find the part number for the manual you need. The manufacturer suggested you call the dealer ( who generally calls the manufacturer for part numbers) look up the number for the manual. That is an interesting statement. In my limited experience with montana when I call the nearest dealer the response is that they would get hold of montana and get the part number and then order it from them. Good Luck with your quest.

I know,I know.....it doesn't make any since at all.
I'm still waiting for the dealer to call so he can order it for me. lol

Maybe I will try Montana once more and hope to speak to someone different.

Maybe one of the numerous dealers that read tractorbynet will see if they can find that part number for you. I just called and asked to speak to parts. When they got on the phone I just asked if they had one and when they said yes I asked if they could give me the number. If they cannot find one for you then they should be able to go look on the shelves. The part department at headquarters is not that big a place.

ok here is the part number off of my service manual

SMT1005A/NWSP#5

The front of the manual says

SERVICE MANUAL

4320,4340,4320C,4340C,4920,4920C,4940,4940C

Hopefully that will help anyone with the above models.

If anyone has a part number for the same manual on disk I would love to see it posted
