I negotiated the service manual for tractor and engine as part of the deal on my GC1710. The manual arrived today in 3 separate items, two manuals (one for tractor, one for engine), and the nicest 3 ring binder I've ever owned (it extends and detaches in a way I haven't seen before). If you need a copy of a page or something let me know....heck maybe I should take it to my local copy shop and make a PDF for all to view....

The information looks detailed and so much better than the owners manual. I'm always a big fan of service manuals as I do most, if not all, my own repairs.

That's a lot better than the one I got (which I had to pay for...)!

I put all my (loose) stuff into an old Toastmaster Products Service three-ring binder. (Former lifetime...) Still, very good manuals to have!

Oops... just checked again. My Service Manual set did come with a nice binder, complete with section tabs. But mine's even M-F Red! :cool2:

It was all the separate operator manuals (tractor, FEL, MMM, snow blower, etc.) that I had to provide my own binder for.... But you're right, those service publications are a great asset.

That binder better be nice. AGCO charges $60.39 for this binder! I kid you not. The tractor and engine service manuals (just the pages, without binder) together come to $49.17. Interestingly, the set with binder is $116.33 while the three items purchased separately only add up to $109.56.
Either way, when I buy the service manuals I think I will provide my own binder :)

You guys did good. I ordered a service manual for my allis Chalmers which agco took over allis Chalmers. I got a brown ups truck pulling up to my door with a couple few hundred pages of the service manual. It was all there and neatly packaged, I just had to go to Wal-Mart and buy a 3.ring binder. Service manuals come in handy when you have problems.

I hope you guys are all kidding. People buying a brand new tractor with implements costing $1000-$3000+ each have to pay extra and/or don't get manuals?

We are talking service manuals....not owners manuals. Service manuals are what the dealer techs use (or should) to work on equipment (from RVs to Corvettes to planes). I don't think anything no matter the cost comes with service manuals. But I always seek out to find them for anything I buy. They are a great tool for a DIYer.

Hopefully everyone does receive the owners manual with any product they buy from a $20 thermostat to a $1M RV.....

okay, thanks for clarifying!

Well, I guess I'm about to maybe hijack this thread...

Service manuals: With my old rigs, a '72 Blazer that I kept for over 30 years, a couple of late 70's VW Rabbits, even a Peugeot 504D Estate (wagon), and my several "vintage" Japanese motorcycles, Chilton's :)thumbdown:) or Clymer's :):) manuals gave me all I needed to know. (And still do, for the bikes.)

Beginning with our 1987 Plymouth Colt Vista AWD, then with its replacement, a 1993 Plymouth Voyager AWD, then with that replacement, wife's current 2004 Toyota Matrix AWD, followed by my 2005 Jetta TDI Wagon, I ordered the factory service manuals with each & every one.

In every case, they paid for themselves very quickly, even as they became more and more expensive -- the latest ones going for well over $150 each. Still, they paid for themselves, like when I was told "you need a new transmission-- $2000" on the Colt Vista (a broken wire to the vacuum-operated 5th/reverse plunger), to the "you gotta have a major wiring issue, all switches check out OK, another $500 for diagnosis" on my Jetta (a flaky clutch switch, $18)....

But then it got weird: in addition to the service manuals for the Jetta, I needed to purchase proprietary software to work with the Jetta (VAG-COM), ANOTHER $280... but yes, that paid for itself, too.

Now we have, purchased new in 2015, a Roadtrek SS Agile RV, based on the Mercedes Sprinter short/tall chassis, with their OM642 V-6 3.0 diesel. OK.... it seems that, other than a generic code-reader, I'd need the (again, proprietary) M-B software package for complete/thorough/accurate diagnosis of the EXTENSIVE computer-controlled... well, everything!! Cost is around $20K. Forget that!

So that's the way it going, apparently... the days of the DIY/backyard/shade-tree mechanic are rapidly coming to an end, methinks. (Remember that scene in the original Star Wars movie where Luke is working on a wicked complex droid like it's no big deal?) That Mercedes is so %$% complicated... I'm not sure if I even WANT to work on the thing, for fear of screwing up some small bit that will end up costing thousands later (yes, it happens, apparently fairly often)... So it looks like I'm stuck with going to a dealer or to an independent --who has the tools and the knowledge-- and are, unfortunately, fairly hard to find....

So, the "new" service manuals, at least for some vehicles, are these forums, where folks can share their experiences and solutions. (I visit the Sprinter forum on a daily basis.)

But, for things that --so far-- aren't totally controlled by a computer and a bunch of sensors.... a good factory service manual is a very sound investment.

Alvin Toffler strikes again....

I bought the GC1710 factory service manuals. I could never find a list of every zerk/grease location in the owner manual. I couldnt find it in the service manuals either. I still have some that have not yet been located.
