Tractor
looking
Well, I've taken everything into consideration and think I am going to make the trip to GA and see this thing! Mus is right (if I drive 5hrs it's gonna be hard to say no but we'll see). Tractor stinks of a recon but I've looked at it everyway I can. Worst case I could break it up. I have no use for the finish mower (think he said 48x48 LMC or LTC or something) so I'll likely sell that after I see the pto turn it. Other stuff I will keep and see what I can find out. To me, a tractor is a tool - as long as it's safe and working I don't care if it's pretty (yet). I will likely try to fix most of it myself so one way or another, I'm gonna learn something!:p If you look at it 350 for box, 500 for mower, 250 for rake, 2000 for loader, and 1000 for trailer, that leaves me 1000-1200 left before the 5200 the bike is worth. Bike has been on craiglist with no bites but a lot of phone calls to people with tractors. Everyone wants $ not motorcycles. Bike may sell better in spring, but who knows. At this point, I think I'll take a chance and probably learn a little about tractors! Heck my first bike was $50 and litterally in boxes! '67 mercury cougar - boxes! It's becoming my MO!:D Thanks to all - I'll keep you posted!

Given the nature of the deal I can understand how you came to this decision. I wish you the best of luck with this new project. As always this forum will be here to help in whatever ways we can.

Normally the sn (located by your left ankle reads "YM1510-0409." that is my serial number anyway. I have an early model of the 1510.

Ron you have several posts about this tractor, to keep from confusing everyone and have some folks posting on one mssg but not the other try in the future to keep using the same thread for the same subject. Im sorry if there was a different topic between the two that i missed.

I've been searching a talking tractors so long, I think my poor wife is about to flip. I have two small kids and have never had any problems with doing dangerous things. Skydive, motorcycles, vnrecons with no ROPS (which is worse?), but late last year I watched one of my riding buddies learning how to walk again after breaking both legs in a motorcycle accident (Carey!!??). He had a lot of internal bleeding and damage that made us all think he was a gone. It didn't scare me into not riding again, but it made me think just a little. I love to ride, and will again, but maybe I'll just tinker on that Cougar and a little vietnamese tractor for a while. On another note, the only tractors with loaders on the net under $5K seem to be scams or 6 ton Masseys with 40 years of shifter shortening and loader welding. I'm not a farmer on 100 acres, I just want something to play with. Thank you all so much for the mounds and mounds of help. I have learned more about Yannys in the last few weeks than I could in a year by myself. You are a great group of guys - I WILL keep in touch.

Hey think of it this way, I'll let the bucket fill with rain and throw some seeds in the seed. The birds will like it!:D

Its funny you come here for advice and completely ignore it when given. I wish you luck with the deal but If you are not the "mechanic" type and you don't have extra $ lying around to fix this beast, you would be better off to find a NON recon Yanmar. Good luck.

Oh No!!!! I hope you didn't tell Her what happened to me also?? I bet She through the Gavel down:eek: Your Screwed thats a done deal. Yeah though Ron you do make a couple of good points. After the first of the year I kind of look at things different myself.
Being ASE. Cert. there is nothing you can't or won't be able to handle. Well I take that back it may be a VN. Recon. still not sure, and you just may think you've seen it all:p

I don't see any evidence that it's a Vn recon. He will be at least the 3rd owner, and someone put a Koyker loader on it. I do think 4 threads on the same topic could be a TBN record:rolleyes:.

That's funny, my wife said something like that. Her's was more like "S##T or get off the pot"! - And she doesn't know anything about tractors.

In his other thread he stated it had 150 hours since recondition. That doesn't make it a VN, but where else do you hear of one that's been "reconditioned" that hasn't come from VN?

/ Seriously thinking about 1510D #13
Where else but VN do you put on the wrong steering link and call that 'reconditioned'?

But I'll vote to encourage this if Ron thinks it's a better hobby than motorcycles. I rode a Brit 650 (way back in the day) as my only transportation for a couple of years in urban traffic. I never dropped it but after way too many near-death experiences in traffic I said the H--- with it and decided it was time for another hobby while all my limbs were still intact. Ron, I support your decision.

Fredericks tractors out of Alabama, as well as several others that recondition on a smaller scale here in the US. I dont think that they reset the hour meter to around 10 hrs like VN but they call them reconditioned, those that sell Fredericks tractors i beleive call them reconditioned, go to fredericks website been a while but they talk about the things they go over fix to me thats reconditioning.

/ Seriously thinking about 1510D #16
wasent saying anything about correct or incorrect just that People do recondition here in the US and pointing out the big one.

/ Seriously thinking about 1510D #17
Those done stateside are more of a "servicing" rather than a "reconditioning", in this case all the problems the tractor in question has I highly doubt you would get that from any reliable dealer here in the states.

I also looked and haven't found anywhere that is states Fredricks "reconditions" Yanmars

If you find the word "recondition" on the Fredricks site, I'm sure they'd like to know about it. They, us, and other dealers avoid the word itself like the plague because it has become so closely associated with the vn tractors. Do we put tractors through the shop? You bet. But the standard recon line is something like new head gaskets, 95% of original on clutch, pressure plate, rings, etc....all of which is bunk anyway. Find one of those sellers who can tell you what the OEM 100% spec was for those items. If you can't quote the OEM 100% spec, how can you guarantee what you have is at least 95% of that? I've always wondered why they advertise all new head gaskets. Why would you pull the head on a tractor with no symptoms? We replace it if necessary, but not on every unit, so I have just assumed every one of their units needs the head pulled for some repair of some kind. Anyway, yes, we and others work on the tractors we buy, but we do it stateside, and we are starting with tractors that are in dramatically better condition to begin with. We use the term "processing". We process tractors. May be semantics, and we're happy to tell our shoppers what gets done when we process, but the recon word has just taken on a meaning many of us don't want to associate with.

He didn't say it was reconditioned, he was asking if it were reconditioned(????). After 6-8 years no way to tell from the hour meter, but looks more like a poor paint touch-up and bad workmanship to me. RCO Tractors in Texas sells a lot of US reconditioned tractors.

I can understand you having the tractor fever. I had it for 2 years before I finally bought mine. I ended up buying one from a dealer in TX that supposedly reconditioned them. As it turned out mine had a bad head gasket which ultimately ended up running hot on me. I had to rebuild the engine. I can tell you for a fact that the head had never been off of it. You live and learn. I discovered too late about Fredricks and lmtc. There has been some good advice given here.

I guess that selling a motorcyle is about as hard as selling a sailboat right now. I wish you luck and hope it works out for you.
