As I love all tractors, I was in the city today and a guy (who knows me well) asked me a question. It may sound goofy but I didn't know the answer and I am serious.

If you own (2) tractors by John Deere, do you own (2) John Deere or (2) John Deeres.

I'm guessing this is why you own just one Kubota... ;)

I believe it would be "deeres" since it is a tractor called a John Deere and not the actual animal. Just like you would say 2 John Smiths or 2 Fords.

Funny question though... was he serious?

I will have to drink a few beeres and ponder that one.

This was my exact thought but I really wasn't sure. Obviously spelling is different as well. Just got those little gears turning in my head.

Yes I own 1 kubota. I'd love me a gator soon :) and would own a Deere any day ...

Take the easy way out,

"I own 2 John Deere tractors." :D

Or as my wife would put it, "2 green tractors." (or 2 blue, or 2 orange, etc) The way she differentiates between the 2600 and the TN70A, is the "little blue" or the "big blue" tractor.

The easiest way is to say: I'm totally broke!

That is how I would say it too! Now I just need to get another green tractor!

That is the correct way. You don't own a john Deere, you own a tractor--A "john Deere" could be a plow, hay rake, blower, etc.
