John Deere 2030, 6320, 720D, 455, 322
I have a 2030 that is missing it's serial tag, but there is an aluminum tag on the side of the engine block. It is on the right side, almost dead center mid block. If this is the original engine, which I suspect it is, can this number be used to obtain the tractor serial number and can a replacement therefore be obtained?
If the answers is affirmative, where would one go to obtain said information?

Thanks in Advance,

Tim

I would think it would. Contact John Deere. They keep pretty good records.

Okay guys, so I sorta answered my own question with a phone call and I'm going to post my findings for others who seek this knowledge. My buddy that works parts at Deere is walking me through the process. Seems step one is to fill out a few forms which lead you to verify the engine serial as well as several different casting numbers. Then you sign the forms as well as get them notarized. Then once you submit these forms, Deere does the research and once it all checks out...they send a Deere rep out with the newly minted tag who then verifies the serials and casting numbers and applies the new tag. Apparently, and according to my buddy, there is no charge for the service and they are primarily trying to thwart the moving of stolen tractors.
Can anyone verify this as a process they have gone through?

I have not gone through that process but it makes sense to verify ownership and make sure the serial number gets applied to the right tractor.
Otherwise stealing tractors and getting legitimate documents of ownership would be easy.

A lot of hassle but worth it to get the correct information back on the machine.

Absolutely! I was glad to hear it's more of a process than just requesting it.

Well, I've learnt something today... ta, toplink!

I'll just tuck that wee titbit of information away in my brainbox for future reference. :)

That's pretty cool of Deere.
I hope you don't find out that your machine was stolen at some point and that's why the tag is missing. I'd imagine that you'd have to surrender it!
