Hello everyone I have just bought my first home with about 8 acres and they saying there is another spetic tank on the property so just wondering how to find it?

Who is "they"? My first step would be to ask "them". In Michigan, the County Health Departments have jurisdiction. You could ask whoever has jurisdiction in your area.

The water stewardship in your area will have its location IF a permit was taken upon original installation.
Find someone in your area that does water witching. They'll find it quicker than you think.:thumbsup:

yep.. check any building permits or official records.. if there were houses or trailers on the property, there might be some record of it with the municipality..

I found the extra Septic Field on my property when I was putting in fence posts.
This was right after I discovered a burned and buried single wide trailer buried on the property. Went to the Courthouse and found a easement where the septic field is.
Once I knew what to look for I could see it on aerial photos taken by the county for assessment purposes.

If you have a horse, ride it around the suspected locations. Horses don't like walking on top of hollow areas and will hesitate. At least ours were that way.

When i moved here I could tell where the tank might be according to the grass patterns above the tank, but had no idea how far from how it was nor how big it really was.
When I thought I had a problem with my septic tank or fields- I called up the local septic cleaners and they offered to come out to look before sending their truck to pump out my tank. The guy used a rod with a handle on it like a rebar and started probing my ground in suspected area where tank is according to the odd looking patch of grass over tank. He was able to probe to the point where he can find edge of tank to determine size of tank and guesstimate where the access hole is. He was pretty much spot on.
If you have lived there for 3 years or so, and if it wasn't required for previous seller to inspect and pump tank before selling, I'd do the same as what I did. Call up a local septic tank cleaninng service and ask questions. eventually you may get a company that will go beyond to make you an customer.

Might it be a cistern instead of a septic tank? If it is a very old house,
septic tanks were not really used - a straight pipe to the creek or draw
were more like it. Cisterns were more common. If it is septic, it would
be gravity fed from the house or other structure.
Either way, it should be fairly close to the house, or if there was another
house or barn on the property it should be fairly close to that structure.
You should be able to get some idea by a different grass pattern. As
said, a 4 foot tile probe would help greatly. Neither were usually too
deep into the ground.
