It could need to be vented before it can be removed. Perhaps a suction effect to to it's not being vented yet caused it to be immovable.

Well everyone the pumper man came out this morning and pumped and cleaned out tank. and he said it was ready tobe pumped. I told him i had trouble getting lid off he was impressed i got it off he said most all he see like that they either break off ears to turn it or ears that hold it in tank he told me most people just pry it off and break it lol he said one guy even took a sawsall and cut out lid. Any way thanks to everyone that helped me its a good feeling knowing i wont have to worry about my tank for awhile.

What was the charge for pumping? I believe it is close to $300.00 in S. Oregon.

We had our tank pumped, gracious time flies, almost a couple years back.
I added soil on top of the tank when I did the final grading of the house after it was built. I marked the access to the tank with large stones so when I had to pump the tank it would be easy...
What I did not know was that there was another access door to the solid's tank.
I had dug down six inches or so to find the access I knew about. When the pumper showed up, in a VERY nice, and VERY clean purple truck, he told me about the second tank. A dishonest pumper would have just pumped the liquid side, cleaned the filter and taken my money.
I knew where the pipe came out of the house so we knew where the other access would be. Sorta.
It was a good three feed down. The pumper had a helper and the three of us took turns digging for the access.
The county ONLY required an extension on the tank that has the filter, no the side that has the solids. WHY they do this is beyond me.
We eventually dug out the access and the pumper installed a plastic extension so we would not have to repeat that nonsense again. I think my total bill was around $350 with something like $50-75 being the extension.
A fellow TBNer mention years ago that they pump their septic tank every Presidential election. Easy to remember to pump the poo at election time. The pumper's very nice purple pump truck had a sign on the top of the tank.

His truck was a work of art. CLEAN. I was joking with his helper that there was a speck of dirt on the truck. :laughing:
The helper said they keep the trucks in a heated garage. I believed him.
The sign on the back of the truck was just funny. :thumbsup:

For sure the arrow needs to align with a marker (probably another arrow).
I'd clean edge first and use a short chunk of of 2X4 and pound on the 2 by to rotate in the direction to align arrows.
The design would suggest but a quarter turn is probably all you need.
In all probability some soil and grit is in the treads causing friction.
If you have the hose handy, try washing out the gritty stuff first.

I asked my septic "pumper" how business was?
His reply was..."business is very good...I just need to remember...to NOT lick my fingers as I count the money!"
He is also my garbage man and rents out porta potties...seems like logical "extentions" of your business? TMR

There must be something fascinating about septic tank pumping
When I was a kid, most homes had town sewer service already, but once in awhile we would spot a "Honey Pot" in the neighborhood. Man, it was like the circus came to town. Every kid from blocks around would come running, to watch :laughing:

Just had my tank pumped in late October and it cost $300 (said it's based on size of your tank). I was impressed with the young guy that did mine mostly b/c I didn't know the exact location of the tank but had an idea based on a clean out pipe back there.
He came, started "walking it to measure" and began digging - he said tanks are usually a standard so many feet down and over from the cleanout if there is one. My tank/lid was 4 feet down and he dug it all by hand. He pumped it, put lid back on, covered the dirt back over it and gone within an hour.

Wow. In Oregon they have to haul the septage to a treatment site, not just dump it in a ditch along a back road.

They don't dump in a ditch, but it is common for them to "fertilize" the fields with it. Usually corn fields that is used for the livestock.

They used to allow that here. The started requiring that it be taken to a sewage plant after years of operators getting caught road dumping. Sometimes they would drive and dump at the same time. One guy admitted to dumping 140K gallons of waste in road ditches. They could make a lot more money by not speading it on a field, just pump & dump, they could do 5x the biz. Our pump fees went from $75 to $175 very quickly. And that was a few years ago. It's time to do ours, so I am sure it's gone up.
