Bought an old Gehl hoe for my Case 1838 skidsteer. All the controls work however the main boom up/down is really sensitive. All other function are as you would expect. My question is; is the valve faulty or is there an adjustment that can be made?? I have not dug into it yet so just trying to collect some Intel before I do.

Blackice no one has gave you anything try or do. I well try, It seems like the control valve on the hoe GPM doesn't match good with skidsteer. I looked the skidsteer and gpm is 15.8 and if the hoe control valve is "lets say" a 25 or 30 gpm then it well be real sensitive. Try and find gpm are for the hoe. You can help it with restrictors. Maybe this well help you have something to start with.

Sometimes the valves just aren't very good when asked to flow small amounts.

My Branson backhoe was like that. Moving the boom jerks the tractor around. When curling the bucket the travel is so fast that it bangs into the stop and ejects most of the material.

I added adjustable flow controls for both directions on the boom, and when curling the bucket. It's much better now.
