Selling your used tractor

I will be putting my L39 up for sale in a week but not sure how this works, I own it free and clear. All I have is a letter from kubota saying its paid off but there is no title or any official document. So do I just wright up a receipt myself? Just seems like area open to alot of fraud high dollar item no traceable records. I have only bought and sold through a dealer so this is new to me.

Lots and lots of very valuable things don't have titles, which are merely documents created by the State so that they may render TAXES. LOL.

Sell it. Thank God tractors are yet taxed like every other freakin' thing. You know what I mean. A "sticker" that the state sells you to affix to your tractor and have it "registered". Oh wait...... shhhhhhhh. Let's not talk about this anymore.

Right, just make up a bill of sale with the pertinent info on it, such as vin, hours, etc. when selling it.

Good advice from Ductape...he beat me to it! When I sell something I always make up a bill of sale with the particulars. When I buy something of value, I always make one up too, that states the seller is selling it free and clear of any emcumberances. Don't know if that would save me if it turned out to be stolen, but at least they wouldn't throw me in jail (well, been lucky enough I haven't purchased something that turned out to be stolen or with a lien!).

I also put a picture of the item and the serial number plate on the bottom of the bill of sale if I have space... No question about what is being sold then.

It's up to the buyer to check to see if their are any liens filed against the tractor. It's also wise of the buyer to verify that the tractor has not been reported stolen. As for the seller, just document the vin number and keep a copy of the bill of sale for your records. Most states have generic bill of sale forms that can be printed out.

All you the seller "has" to do is get the money and give them the tractor.:laughing:
If I was buying a used Kubota tractor I'd want to see the letter from Kubota financing that it has been paid off or talk to the selling dealer that it was bought for cash.
Ky does record the lein at Frankfort and if one knows how they can go on line and see that the lein has been released. Any dealer should be able to tell you your states location of lein filing.
I'd also ask where someone purchased a tractor if I was the least bit interested/suspicious of it being stolen and then do a logical follow up to determine the truth concerning the info the seller gave me.
I have a F2680E for sale which I will probably sell thru Barlows to get the discount of state sales tax toward the replacement Kubota. Buying thru a dealer should also provide some comfort for a buyer. Barlows sold me the F, has sold me many machines and sort of knows who I am as well as they know I've paid it off.
