Have any of you tried to sell using the classifieds? Each time I have used it I get emails that sound like a bussiness wanting to buy the item. They want a bussiness associate involved with the sale. Here is a copy of an email that I got. Do you think this is real. I think it is a scam waiting to stick me.

Thanks for the mail, I am okay with the price of the Said Item,my mode of payment will be Cashier's Check Or A Money Order. So i have a Business Associates that will send you thePayment of $4,000. So all i want you to do now is to recieve this Payment from my Business Associates and deduct your selling price from the funds and then send the remaining excess funds to the Shipping Company.

You are not to worry about Shipping, I have a reputable Shipping Company that i have been using for long now, so i am sure they will Ship the Item right to the destination i want it shipped. Also they have got a lot in Europe to ship for me.The remaining excess funds should be sent to the Shipping Company via Western Union Money Transfer and the charges to get Funds transfered to them should be deduct from the excess funds you are sending to them ( Shipping
Company).

For this i am compesating you with the sum of $100, so the total amount will be $500. If you are ready to transact with me, Which i believe you will certainly do, i will want you to provide me with the following details needed for the Payment to get to you :
NAME YOU WANT THE CHECK TO BEAR:.........................
..
ADDRESS YOU WANT THE PAYMENT SENT TOO:...............................................
PHONE NUMBER:.................................(Home,Work and Cell)
Will await to read from you soonest with the details needed immeidately, so as to facilitate the pace of the transaction.
Thanks..................................

In case you've not seen/heard it yet... they're going to send you a bogus money order. You then wire GOOD funds to them. Couple weeks later, the money order (what ever) bounces and you're out the funds you "refunded" to them. If you're REALLY unlucky, you will also have shipped the item out by then.

They're not really interested in the item at all.

At one time I was selling MP3 players and computer memory chips. One day in the mail a $27,000. check showed up with instructions for product and very similar wording. They wanted us to send the overpayment to a 3rd party. I 1st deposited their check and it took a couple of days before the bank called and said it was indeed bogus. I was betting it was just as I'm betting yours is a scam also.

Related to this I saw an interesting news story on TV just yesterday. They were interviewing the owner of Craig's List. Seems he's really putting the hurting on the classified ads in the local newspapers across the nation. People use Craig's List to buy and sell and unlike eBay I don't believe there is a charge to post. Most of their money as I understand it comes from advertisers. Craig's List has already made the owner millions.

Ya want to have some fun. Email them back and tell them they have a deal. Wait for the check and then tell them you are going to get right on it. Of course you don't do anything and they will start emailing you wanting updates. Keep promising and delaying. Just frame the check and wait. You will have the satisfaction of knowing you actually cost them time and money, will not hurt you at all and if you keep us posted we can get a laugh out of it. I saw this actually done on another board ( well, it might have been this one now that I think about it). The other guy who did it posted a picture of the bogus cashiers check and their emails also :D
