Looking to buy a newer used truck within a month or so. Currently have a 2003 Ford Expedition with about 175,000 miles on it. Wife has used it for general transportation for last 9 years and recently for pulling a horse trailer. Still runs good but she is afraid that it may break down while pulling the trailer. And she wants something nicer and more up to date.

When I get the new truck, I know I won't get anything in trade so I am not even going that rout.

My problem is how to sell the Expedition. Haven't sold a vehicle in a while. In the old days you put an ad in the paper, but that is probably useless today. Any suggestions on on the best way to sell it? Guessing that I could get about $4,000-5,000 for it

craigslist, local facebook "for sale" boards, the sale section here, lots of avenues

Did your newspaper cease operations in June?

Craigslist is how I sell everything

Fairly straightforward to list a vehicle on one of the many sites like autotrader or cars.com. Craigs List can be good as well.

For older vehicles, Craigs List is probably better to get some response than autotrader or similar, but be prepared to take some heat on the price. I did a quick Kelly Blue Book run on your SUV and even in excellent condition it comes in around $2500 for a private party sale. I think KBB runs low but a lot of buyers will go there to get a baseline for offers and it's hard to get them above it.

Guessing?

$4,000 is pretty high for a 14 year old vehicle with 175K miles. UNLESS it's been meticulously maintained with all records. Well, still a lot. You might get it but probably not.

My experience is that KBB is a little high.
