Selling my Kubota L3400HSTDT,whatcha think?

I am selling my home with acreage to scale back to a smaller subdivision lot closer to work in the city. I purchased a new 2004 Kubota L3400 HST DT about 5 months back and it only has 29 hours on it. It is the Hydrostat with 4wd and Industrial tires and Foldable ROPS. I have the LA-463 FEL with an EZ Attachments toothbar added to it and a Befco C-50 6' rear discharge Finishing mower as well. Everything was purchased brand new and cost right at $21,000.00 out the door delivered to my land.
I am going to need about $18,000.00 but, will negotiate, to pay it off. Does this seem like a good/fiar price for this tractor? It is as good as a new one and I feel like this would give someone a great tractor and they could save some cash in the process. Of course it still has the factory warranty and all. OK, just what I think; may or may not be right. I think you may have a problem. The tractor is almost new and someone could save $3k if he has the cash. But it seems that it's hard for buyers to find financing on used tractors, even if they are nearly new, and if they do find financing, it's a higher interest rate than they can get on a new tractor from a dealer. I had to move back to town 3 years ago, and I had about the same amount ($21k) in my B2710 with FEL, canopy, trailer, brush hog, finish mower, tiller, manuals, fuel barrel and pump, etc. Of course it was about 3 years old and about 400 hours on it. I priced it at $16k and had buyers who wanted it, but could not get financing. So when I guy showed up with $15k in cash, I let him have it.

So maybe you'll get lucky and find someone with cash who wants to save a few bucks, or someone who can find financing at a better deal than I've seen.

I tend to agree with Bird. When I was shopping for my BX, I found one locally that had 150 hours, was 2 yrs old, and looked great. But his price was within $3K of what a new one would cost me also.

Pluses to buy his: no sales tax, a little cheaper than new.
Minuses to buy his: almost no warranty left, financing was a lot more (can't beat 2% factory note), and his tiller was smaller than I wanted.

I bought new and never looked back. I do hope you can find a buyer, cuz they will be getting a good tractor.

I agree. That is the real cunundrum for buyers. That is exactly what I ran into when looking for a tractor. anything that was nearly new had a nearly new price. Which is the way it should be, but when Kubota and JD had 3 year 0% financing, it was going to cost me less to get a new tractor with their financing than to buy a like-new tractor and have to finance it myself at 6-8% interest.

But, if someone has cash and is looking for a used machine, $18,000 is probably fair. I don't think it is a coincidence that the big name makers are having these low rate financing deals. They are in direct competition with the used market and that's the one way they can tilt the playing field to their advantage.

The looser is the private seller trying to sell his used tractor.

Maybe you'd be ahead to stay put and continue the commute to work as you may not be able to recoup the loss on the sale of the tractor from the savings of a shorter commute to work.

In your example selling a 21000 tractor for 18000 is a 3000 loss.
If moving saves you 2000 as a result of the shorter commute over the present longer one you
just lost 1000 by moving.

Something you may consider (but I don't know if the timing of the house buy/sell will allow you to do this) is to offer to roll the tractor into the sale of your house. The new owner gets a tool he will need to maintain his new property, and he ends up financing it as part of the mortgage, which has several advantages. The only thing is you'd have to be a little creative on the deal, like bumping the sale price of the house up by $18k and selling him the tractor for a $1.

btw, I ended up with a nice JD lawn tractor by doing this when I bought my place a year ago.
