I'd like to sell my '49 8n. Runs good, new coil, points and condenser last year. Brakes don't work, 3pt doesn't lift either. Paint is rough. Tires have good tread, but some cracking. Tin is straight. Would include a drawbar for the 3 pt. I'd like to get $1000 for it, but would be pretty happy with $900. Am I outta line here?

I see a lot of old Fords on Craigslist (in the New England area). The prices range from about $1000.00 to $4K-$5K.
So, I doubt you're out of line...but I'd ask $1500.00 and see what kind of responses you get.

Thanks, I listed it at $1200, and got one guy who offered $900, but he was a nice guy and wanted a tractor to run a bush hog and tiller. The 8n just isn't geared low enough, and I knew he wouldn't be happy. So I kinda helped him change his mind. Maybe I should have just taken his money, but it didn't feel right. I was kinda surprised that I didn't get more offers, though.

A large number of people will want a blade this time of year for moving snow.Your tractor is priced below some snow blowers. your tractor is fine for a bush hog, and you were right about running the tiller.Being honest is not out of style and someone will be happy at the 1200.00 dollar price. It may be spring though when everyone wants to mow and garden. At your price and a little snow it could be paid for this winter.

Good point. I've got an extra rear blade too, I would definitely take $1300 for tractor and blade.

brakes and hyds are usually easy fixes, .. if the brakes are worn shoes.. it's just a drum setup like rear of an old truck. if axle seals leak. it's more work.

ont he hyds. I'd pull the dipstick side cover and see if the arm from the top cover is moving the control valve in and out completely. sometimes grit in the oil sticks it.

ps. pto must run for hyds to work

You will sleep well and not get a stiff neck from constantly looking over your shoulder. Hope I'm as lucky as the buyer, to deal with an honest seller as yourself, in my future deals. 445A

PTO runs. I know all that stuff is pretty easy to fix, but I've got other projects right now, like the head gasket on our 52. My preference is just to sell it as is, and let someone else mess with it.

my point was. selling a machine with no hyds may make a 500$ difference in price.

the time it took me to type this message of a phone, i could have pulled the bolts int he side cover and seen if that control arm actually moved!

IE. it takes about 3 minutes to see if you can gain 500$

sounds like you are too busy for 3minutes and don't need the 500$ either. ??

Point taken. I would love an extra $500, of course. I don't have great access to a heated shop, so that's part of my problem. Thanks for the suggestion, and I will pop the cover and see what's going on.

Also, thanks for your Ford tractor expertise in general. You have a wealth of knowledge on the subject and we are incredibly lucky that you are kind enough to share it with us.
