Box Scraper Seller saying I can't use a Box Blade?

I have been looking for a 42" box blade since it will cover my tire width on a Kubota B6100E. I found a used Gannon 42" with a hinged back and 4 rippers. The seller is trying to talk me out of it saying I shouldn't even consider using one with a tractor so small, and should just rent a bigger tractor every time I need one . I don't plan on moving a ton of dirt, just flattening some lumpy trails and maintaining some areas I will be renting a larger machine or farming out the work to level(10 foot tall 60 foot long dirt pile right on the edge of a pond).

You will have to take small bits of dirt but it will work and do a fine job if you just take your time. Just remember everyones got their opinion there like ____ everyones got one.

I pull a 48" box grader with my BX24. The only difference that i see is that i have 4wd.

I pull a 48" boxblade with my B7100DT. No problem with power, but I have the option to drop in 4wd if/when it starts to spin when the box is fully loaded with gravel. I don't actually get stuck in 2wd, tires just dig in a little and the little beast keeps crawling forward. 42" BB should work very nicely with your tractor.

If I'm not mistaken, the E in B6100E means two wheel drive. Which in effect is actually one wheel drive unless/until there's a diff lock that can be engaged. At least that's how it worked on the geared tractors I've owned. Can't really speak specifically to the Kubota.

And assuming you've also got turf tires on that thing, I agree with the seller.

How big of a tractor is a B6100E? There might be a weight issue. The Gannon's are pretty heavy box blades, my 72" Gannon weighs 1300 pounds. If you can pull and lift it the Gannon is one of the best blades out there.

My old Ford 1100 with turf tires moved a lot of dirt in its life under my ownership. Yes a bigger tractor would do it faster, but it would do it. Putting into 4wd would speed things up a little more, but it would do it in 2wd. Make sure your tractor likes the boxblade in question before shelling out the clams.

Somewhere on TBN amoungst these millions of post some one with a small CUT or maybe SCUT ruined a tire with a box blade because the lift arms were so short that the scarifier caught the tire. He could only lift it to a certain height or it would hit and one time he forgot. IMO that is a design flaw of the tractor. An implement should not hit the tire if the tractor is designed correctly regardless of the implement used and it should lift and lower to the full range of motion.Better check that out before spending the $$$ and hitching up and taking to the dirt piles.

The B6100E is a little guy, 14 hp and 970 lbs, give or take. What kind of tires does it have?

I don't see why it wouldn't work. If it's a little heavy it will only help your traction if some of the weight is borne by the tractor.

A differential doesn't make a 2wd into 1wd. On level ground it is almost always the case that both wheels have similar traction and you get 2x the traction of the least tractive wheel. For sure with ag tires traction increases with initial slippage so wheel spin will self-equalize and the differential lock is seldom needed.
