I have a 955 with less than 1000 hours on it. It has a hard cab with heater & defroster installed, a snow blower, and loader. Is it better to sell this outright or trade it towards a new 3X20 when they become available?

It's almost always better to sell outright. Most people don't want the hassle of it.

I am hearing Febuary or March for the 3x20s... Why not try selling it in the meantime? TBN Classifieds are free... You also could check with your dealer. Certain moderl configurations are always in demand, and he might surprise you with a good price... If he needs to make a quota the "chance" to make money on yours might spur him to give more than you might get elsewhere. Most folks will pay a little more for a unit from the dealer, feeling that they will get better support.

But usually you will do better selling it yourself...

I sold my 855 on ebay for $1300 more than the dealer offered me. It won't cost you much to list it if you start the price at the absolute minimum you would take.

With the tractor you described you would be amazed at how much you can get. I wouldn't wait to long because people are buying what they need for winter now.

good luck!

If you pay sales tax, do not forget to calculate how much trading can save you on sales tax.

If you get $10,000 trade that is $10,000 that wont have state sales tax applied.

I usually sell my trucks outright, but I run it through the dealer. The buyer pays the same amount, and it saves me the sales tax on the amount of the trade.

In texas, when the buyer goes to register the vehicle he has to pay the sales tax on that amount anyhow so it is a win win situation for me and the buyer. I think actually the dealer charges me $25.00 for doing the paper work for me. It also gives them an opportunity to finance it at the dealer.

Just a tought !

Of course if you dont register tractors where you live the buyer will loose by having to pay sales tax. We don't register tractors here so its not really good for the buyer. (It may be where you live )
