Selfies - actually a form of population control ?

To grow old is mandatory, to grow up is optional. Personally, I'll stick with the option.

It must be very disappointing to climb to such height and then drop your phone. I would think would want a lanyard on my phone/camera.

Look at the words below. It pretty much says it all. And the sad thing is, you can't fix stupid.

i'm of an older boomer generation, so guess i'm missing out on a lot of stuff like selfies
imho from my limited perspective, selfies merely reflect a self indulgent narcissism via the compulsive need for social media coverage.
(all the way up to the top office.....)
will be interesting to see how history views the "me" social media trend.
have no problem with it, as long as it does not put others @ risk.....(like driving while texting) go selfie go, & post up a storm! :)

believe the Greek God Narcissus drowned while gazing into his own reflected image on water. interesting the same with the current deaths by way of selfie. the Greeks already had it figured out.....

Good points BB...... and I esp. like your last one..... as much as I think there is some truth to this tech morphing certain people's behaviour, human nature is much the same throughout history.

I like to do my own thing too (live and let live), but this problem spilled over into the public space quite early. Even if someone has zero friends or family in the real world, they are putting EMS/Rescue personnel in harm's way, for no good reason.....

Kids.... my generation had stuff happen long before selfies came along; a lot of that was minor broken bones or dents in cars........ but you can't put it all on the kids....

What I found notable in that long sad list on wikipedia was the # of people that were definitely not kids.....

Maybe if people still had things to do.

Cut down a tree
Make a Fire
Till the land and grow food, and everything that goes with that.
Raise animals and eat them, and everything that goes with that.

As it is, people often can't even cook, can't drive a car (never mind repairing one) and soon won't need to know how at all.

So, just maybe, this trend should not be surprising. Life must be incredibly boring for the masses. Maybe it's why so many people here, want to buy a little tractor, get their hands dirty and actually do something.

Those are multi-layered, really good points IT.

Hands-on projects teach much, that can't be learned by just watching the screens of today..... some people get confused between information and experience.

Lack of knowledge of working machinery, and animals - farm and wild, can lead to some of the headlines of today......
