Self Leveling Deere vs Kubota

/ Self Leveling Deere vs Kubota #21
Typically, loaders do both functions, but (BUT!) the function with the least amount of effort gets the bulk of the fluid. So, typically with a full bucket when you try to curl and lift at the same time, it will only curl. If you have an empty bucket, it will do both at about the same rate.

Some controls will meter the flow when 2 functions are called for, typically if you just feather the control. My backhoe is like that. Lift and crowd when full in will result in only crowd. But, if I just feather them, both go but at a slower rate.

The 542 loader is one of the systems that meters the control, i.e. even with a full bucket you can lift and roll, drop and dump and vice-versa with infinite control. Depending on exactly where you put the stick, you can have them equal, or one function slightly faster - a lot faster. That's why the MSL is only good if you intend to do a lot of bale/pallet work. It only takes a few times to find the exact spot with th stick where the bucket/implement stays level when raising...

I have the Kubota self leveler on my M59. Very pleased with it so far. I can turn it on and off easily. Usually use it for pallets and material handling.

I've also got a Kubota M59 with the integrated loader. The hydraulic self-leveling is standard equipment engaged with an electrical switch below the main hydraulic control. (rt hand).

I'd call it more of a "constant angle" than "self-leveling". The bucket doesn't have to be level; it will maintain any desired bucket angle while the loader arms move up and down. Maybe they are all that way. I ended up buying the Kubota over the JD so I've not used the JD loader as much. More about that below....

On the M59 I can hear a slight change in the hydraulic pump hum when the leveling feature is engaged. It seems to work fine. It operates the same all the way up and down and whether the bucket is empty or clear full.

About Buying the Kubota M59: That was sure an odd thing for us to do because we are traditional JD kind of folks thru and thru. Our neighbors and buddies....were all kinda stunned and so were we. But doggone it I blame it all on one day while tractor hunting when I decided that in all fairness I did have to go try the Kubota. That caused the conflict - though I tried to fight it, in all honesty the orange machine just had too many advanced features Kubota to ignore. Time will tell if it lasts as well....or lasts longer. It does seem to be a more heavily built machine.
