was looking at the local paper and see HF has the small gas engines on sale for like 99$ again. always makes me think about getting a small gas engine and coupling with a spare hyd pump like from a tractor cranksahft setup.. that and an oil drum or similar as a sump.. some hosing and a couple DA circuits via inexpensive logsplitter valves and some QD outlets and you could have a 'porta-power' for about 400$ ( depending on what parts you already have or don't have ) high volume too.. not one of these lil electric over hyd ones.

any comments?

Good idea.

I was thinking of the same thing as I have several engine and a couple of spare pumps.

Using a 2.5 GPM pump with a potential pressure of 3000 psi, will take about 5 HP.

I only need a valve, filter and small reservoir.

yep.. I have a pump setting on the shelf.. and the 6.5hp engines are 99$ with super coupon.

have various metal drums from 1-15g in size. got hoses.. even got a few spare valves.

all would need is a framework, and rigging it all up, appropriate valve and qd's.

perhaps mount it in a tube cage. i think i have an old honda genny or trash pump that died and I still have the tube cage.. that or add 3pt pins too it too.. or mount on a carryall. ideas are limitless. would make a standalone power source for a log splitter for sure.. cheap too.
