seat safty switch?

ok so ive had my 2001 TC33D (210 hrs) all of like 4 days but only got like 4 hrs of seat time (its out at the property and im only there on weekends)

mowed some grass with the MMM, moved some brush with the FEL, graded the driveway with my rear blade i got off of craigslist... so i had quite a time getting to know my tractor over the weekend.

so it didnt occur to me till late in the weekend as i was hopping on and off the tractor while grading the driveway that wasnt there something special you had to do to get off the tractor and keep it running?.... yet im doing nothing?

so ya, WITH the hydro in "gear" withOUT the parking break set (which does work btw) i can get up and hop off and she keeps on running just fine.

so has the previous owner "tweeked" some safty switches or am i lucky enough to not be hindinered by them as its 5 years old...

I'd say your seat switch has been bypassed. It is at the back of the flat platform between two coil springs when you rotate/lift the seat.

Have you tried starting the tractor with the range lever NOT in neutral. If it will start, then the whole system has probably been bypassed. It should not start also if the PTO lever is engaged. I have my seat switch bypassed, but the other two work properly.

funny you should ask that.

it wont start when in "range" but if its 3-N-1-N-2 (if memory serves) it wont start when at the N between 1 and 2... it only starts when at N between 3 and 2

which i also thought was weird.

While we are on the subject whats your rear 3pt control feel like? mine feels VERY stiff and is very hard to fine tune (like when i was useing the rear blade on the driveway)

My tractor is a Class III with only Lo-N-Hi range, so someone else with a Class II will have to tell you which neutral works for starting.

On the 3PH lever. This has been discussed and many pictures posted in the past, but I'm not sure any of the photos made it thru the last TBN "upgrade." Essentially, the lever connects to a shaft that enters the casting on the right side of your tractor. Where it enters, there is a castellated nut with a cotter key installed. If you remove the cotter key and loosen the castle nut, your 3PH will work like a dream. You will probably only have to loosen the nut about a1/4 to 1/2 turn. It's easier to do with the right rear tire removed.

You seat switch maybe ok, my foggy memary from my old 33d recalls getting off and on without having to do anything first. My current 33da requires brakes set, in netural,....

I have a TC25D and both neutrals on the range lever work for starting.

I had forgotten all about the sticking 3ph lever. Forgotten I had fixed it, too.

Also, my TC25D never had a seat safety switch.

I also own an '01 TC33D. I am also able to get on and off the tractor when it is in any HST range and running even with the mid PTO engaged (NOT RECOMMENDED). I can start my tractor in either "N" position. Must be normal for an "01" (Before OSHA must of got involved). Not sure why you can't start tractor in one of the "N" positions. Make sure PTO's are disengaged.

Check the permissive switch on the neutral position that wont allow you to start. It needs adjustment. Although I have not experienced the problem, from various discussions right here on TractoByNet, it seems that it is not unusual for these switches to move.

Well...the "jury" is in. I didn't realize the Class IIs don't have a seat switch.

Well it was my understanding that the class II do NOW.... so there must be a time when it went from NOT having one to having one....

and yes I stood up to look over the bucket while inching through some tall grass with the MMM running and it didnt shut off.


ok so it seems we need a FAQ for the early class II TC seires because i have spent quite a bit of time reading and searching and by far the search button on this site sucks because i havnt come accross ANY of these threads you speek of.

SO another thing i found odd. (i have no owners manual yet they are "in the mail") WHats the story with the cruse control? I have it, and it works, but i cant for the life of me figure out the proper procedure for turning it off. I would have thought tapping on the HST peddle would have disengaged it but that doesnt seem to work as i did more than just "tap" on the peddle and it did nothing.
So ive been reaching down and flicking the switch off, which works ok except 7/10 times i forget i need to be pressing on the HST peddle at the same time so i come to a lurching stop.

shurly this is not how this "system" is designed to work.
