Search Posts Older Than 1 Year ??

I know we used to be able to do this before the major upgrade. Don't tell me we lost all that history. That would be disasterous !!

You can still search for posts older than 1 year. Have you tried and failed?

Go to the search link, put in the word 'bridge' and you will have results all the way back to the year 2000.

As Dave said, the Search feature works and finds posts much older than 1 year.

I hope you are not limiting the search to 1 year or less via the dropdown that says "Find Post From" -- for if you are, of course you won't get results from over 1 year.

See Attached. On the 'cab' search, there are no posts older than 9-26-2006, which seems kind of odd.

There's got to be something wrong with the search utility.

I typed in "fel" & got back to 9-26-2006 & one back in 2004.

I typed in "backhoe" & got back to 2004, but no further. (50 pages)

I typed in "mower" & got back to 7-20-2005. That's it (50 pages)


Seems like the cut-off for some of the searches is 50 pages maximum.

I got results back to 05-13-2000.

I just searched on two terms that I know go back several years.

"Brown recluse" brought back several hundreds posts to 08-20-2002 08:51 PM;

and "Steve Carver" returned results to 04-11-2000 07:02 PM.

So apparently your query was giving too many results, or some other issue.

Generally speaking the database are re-indexed nightly. It may be that the current day's results are off for 24 hours. But overall I think we have 99%+ of the history intact.

Ibrahim is the one in charge of the indexes (among many other things) .

Well it took me about 45 minutes but I finally found proof of a software glitch in the search utility.

Type in "Cab".....reports back to 9-26-2006

Type in "Enclosure"......reports back to 7-21-2000, HOWEVER, if you check a subject thread regarding "CABS" on page #3.............

.......you will notice posts using the word "CAB" many times.

I tried the same thing with "fel" versus "loader" but could not find the same discrepancy but I am sure it exists. I find it very hard to believe that between 2000 & present, only one person used the acronym "fel" in 2004 & all other cases are found just in the last 3 months of this year.


Looks like Ibrahim has his work cut out for him in the new year !!!!

I noticed sporatic issues the othe day during various searches. Some of them would go back to 2000, and others would only bring back results back to only a few months ago. I'll give examples if I can get it to happen again.

A few months after I first registered here at TBN, there were several of us who had to re-register. While our posts weren't lost, the poster's name for all of our previous posts showed up as "poster" under the old software. I'm going to assume that is who "Do not delete" is under the vBulletin software.

If I recall correctly, I first registered here in February 2003 and re-registered in July 2003. I think anyone who signed up during that time period had posts that were affected.

I was looking for a thread tonight Junkman and I posted in two or three years ago, where we were discussing how half-gallon ice cream cartons now only contained 1.75 quarts... I searched for ice cream and the results only went back to 10-23-2006.

The problem likely has to do with search word length.

I requested a while back, that search terms be allowed for words with as few as three characters.

Muhammad changed the default search to allow this on 9/26/06, which is why the three letter search terms mentioned in this thread only show results since then - those of you getting results prior to 9/26/06 are querying on terms greater than three characters.

It appears posts prior to that date have not been reindexed with the three character minimum search term.
