Just so you know, we have re-opened the search to all forums. You can thank Ibrahim for dreaming up some database tricks to make it work, and not slow down the rest of the forum in the process.

This is a new search database that is updated with all new posts every 24 hours. So, a message you post in the morning will not be available in the search results until about 6AM EST the following day. We felt that this was an acceptable compromise. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Also, keep in mind that searching all forums and all dates will take some time due to the large size of the database. If you search for a general term, all forums, all dates, it will take 15-20 seconds of database searching (the server only manages to search about 20,000 records per second).

It's a good idea to keep the searches narrow if you want quick results.

Enjoy...

Muhammad,
You guys are great /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
I used it a lot only because I was lazy. But I will try to keep my searches confined to individual forums, if that will help out.
Thanks to the whole TBN Owners, Forum Masters, and anything else you 3 get labeled.
Muhammad, Ibrahim and Hakim

The only thing it'll help out is your own result speed.

There should be no slowdowns on the main forum due to ANY searches done (now, if we have 3 people all searching, it's going to be slow for the 2nd and 3rd searchers while the first finishes, etc)

It's a lot of technical info behind how it works. But this works nicely.

Thanks Guys... Now, Ibrahim... what can you do about keeping the power on in the Northeast...? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

John: Well, it turns out our new search actually sucked up most of the power from the North East. Imagine our surprise.

Looks like things are working out now, however.

Yes - thank you very much, Muhammad. The little bit of extra time and slight delay in searching the database, and waiting for recent posts to be saved to the db is worth it when looking for archived data.

Hopefully more folks will search before posting a new thread on an older subject. I think that has been hinted at here and there before....maybe time to refresh us on that, again?
