I got a post hole digger at an auction, and am trying to find a seal for the input shaft. I think the post hole digger is made by Five Star, and they are not in business any more. Wondering if someone here might have an idea of how I could get another seal for it. Am attaching photos of the post hole digger, and the housing that that the seal is in.

Should be able to clean and use auto type liquid seal available at auto zone or advance auto . If it did still leak a bit just pump it full of grease .

Those seals are called radial shaft seals. SKF and Parker are just two of many manufacturers that you can go to. You need to know the bore diameter of the housing, the shaft diameter and the depth of the housing bore.

You can take the old seal to an auto parts store, or a bearing suppier, industrial supply house, tractor dealer, etc, and they can match it for you. You probably don't even have to take it out of the housing if you don't want to risk damage before you find the replacement.

With inner and out dimensions you can go to almost any i-net site that specializes in seals and bearings and cross reference dimension numbers to parts number an order accordingly..... Did something similar with TUFF-TORQ transaxle seal for axle on my JD mower and found out I can get same seal (generic) for about 1/4 the price of JD....

Radial shaft seals

Might try cleaning grease off outer rim of seal and see if any numbers etched/stamped in metal body...

I have not tried removing the seal yet. Wanted to be sure that I will be able to find a seal first. Good idea about looking for numbers.

Thanks for all the advice.

Typically if you remove the seal you will find the size or part umber on the face of the seal, go ahead and take it out and let me know what it says and I should have it in stock.

I removed the seal, but there is no part number on it. The outside diameter of the seal is 1.75 inches. Inside diameter is 1.25 inches. Thickness is approx. 3/8 inch. Have not been having luck finding a seal locally. Waiting to hear back from Parker to see if they might be able to help.

I stock a replacement seal 1-3/4" OD, 1-1/4" id, AND 1/4" thick, CR# 12364, they are $4.32 plus shipping which would be about $3.00. Looks like I have 20 in stock.

Thank you,
