Hello,

I was searching this forum about sea buckthorn topic, but without any luck. We are from Grey County, Ontario and planning to set-up a sea buckthorn plantation. We'll start with 300 plants in spring to test how is going and based on results we'll go up to couple thousands plants on our property. So we appreciate any input, suggestions or even to share some experience about growing this wonderful and healthy plant.
Thank you.

Lets hope that it doesn't turn into an invasive species that gets out of control.

Make sure you have a market for the plant before you sink a lot of money into stock.

This was my first thought too, but we're all sensitized to "buckthorn" where "sea buckthorn" actually is an unrelated plant. Tell anyone around here you've planted a field of buckthorn and you're likely to get napalmed :D

Back OT, I agree with ToadHill to be sure of your market before investing. Also consider how you will harvest/process this sticky (lit.) plant.

Just to open the "apetite" for this plant. The farm from which I'm buying the plants is in business for 9 years already, and they can't produce enough to satisfy the market (pharmaceutical and restaurants). The chalenge is in harvesting but they found a very ingenious method which is viable.
Pretty sure the next question will be: what is the profit?--- 8-10$CAD/lb. So, the plant will produce fruits after the 3rd year and then after 5th-6th year will be at maturity and can produce 20-30lbs/tree, so do the math. Also, go in any healty store and see all the products made from sea buckthorn (oil, soap, juice, shampoon, gell, seeds, tee, etc) and look at the price.......most are made in china, so the product has a market but people doesn't know about this plant enough. Some are thinking is a weed because is "ending in thorn".

Appreciate all the sugestions from you.
Thanks
