Just wondering if i can use a scuba tank for a CO2 tank for a mig welder? I can get one free ...so the price is right. I priced out a regular CO2 tank and they are around $100.

Well I am sure that they would work for that. But all I can say is good luck getting anyone to fill it.:laughing: I am sure there is some law against that.:laughing:

The valves are completely different, the scuba valve would need to be swapped for the correct one to fit the co2 regulator, if it would even fit the tank. 100 is a good price for a CO2 tank, it'd probably be a wash.

Thanks Guys .... Better to be safe than sorry... I will have to just buy a tank, less problems that way.

They would sock you $60.00 for a vavle and labor to install it. Plus they would want to hydrotest it at another $40.00. You would do well with leasing or buying a 20# tank.

I've done the opposite many times... converting a C02 to O2.
When the military was closing down a local base I was able to pick up several very large C02 Fire Extinguishers for next to nothing.
I had them converted to Oxygen Service... which included exchanging the valve, inspecting and washing the inside, sandblasting, hydro and a new coat of green paint...
At the time, it cost me $24 x 5 tanks whereas buying one tank the same size was $130.
I kept two and sold three for $90 each.
Going from Oxygen to CO2 would negate the need to wash the inside of the cylinder... since Oxygen is clean.
I'm sure part of the reason the price was reasonable is I was able to go directly to Pacific Oxygen and bypass the middle man.
