Scruton Dairy owner killed by Harrow Sunday

I see in the Foster's Daily Democrat that Arthur Scruton of Scruton's Dairy was pinned by the side bar of a harrow when he was working on it,some kind of hydraulic failure caused the mishap,the family is carrying on duties of the farm. Arthur had oxen he would take to the Deerfield and Rochester Fairs. I didn't know him personally but saw his products in stores. The farm is located in Farmington, NH . plowking

Arthur was finishing up work before supper when he attempted to open a harrow connected to a tractor and there was a hydraulic failure, his family said. A side bar to the soil-leveling machine, which flips open for use, struck him and landed on him, they said.

Scruton would hang on for about three hours while emergency crews tried to stabilize him for a helicopter to take him to a Massachusetts hospital, but it was to no avail. He died at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, leaving behind his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, friends and admirers.

Ugg. That sucks

Lesson for all of us not to depend on hydraulics. I've got to keep the jack stands closer to hand so I actually use them.

This happened about 1/2 mile from my house. A true tragedy for the family as his farming operation spans 2 different towns/cities by far the biggest and one of the most well known in the area/ state. While I don't know specific details like all of us he probably became complacent about safety while doing something he has done before.
