Cub Cadet Yanmar SC2400
New SC2400 owner with a broken fan belt at 35 hours. Anyone have experience installing a new belt? With the engine mounted in reverse, the drive shaft connects to the lower belt pully. Cannot see a straight forward way to replace the belt.

Not a warranty item ?

Local dealer says never seen the problem before with SC2400 and must have been caused by a stick getting up into the fan belt and therefore not warranty. I'm doubtful about that but the tractor was being used by my son to clear some brush so who knows. In any event, the belt is only a $13.00 part but having the dealer pickup and return the tractor (even under warranty) is $100. They say the repair could be up to 4 hours of shop time. The technical manual indicates that to remove the drive shaft (necessary to get the belt around the lower pulley) either the transmission or the engine must be moved. I originally thought the reversed engine was a slick idea, in hindsite I'm not so sure - $400 - $500 to replace a fan belt?!!

I didn't get that info during the sales pitch before I bought mine. Yikes

I'm telling you if my dealer told me that he'd have a fat lip.
I'd call him and demand he fix your belt unless he can prove you damaged it.
35 hours give me a break. A stick broke the belt but everything else is fine.:rolleyes:If he refuses I'd call cub and ***** them out all day long over it.
If cub wants to sell tractors they need to man up and fix problems. This isn't a big box store lawn mower. The dealers rational is preposterous. Just because he's never heard of the problem it must have been your fault.

Stories like this really tick me off.

For the record IIRC BX's also have reverse mounted engines.

I'm sorry for your problems. These really seem to be good tractors. You have a bad dealer.

wdtmadams,

I was wondering how you came out with replacing the fan belt? I looked at mine the other day and it looks like there are 4 bolts that connect the drive shaft to the pulley. It looks like you could unbolt the drive shaft and replace the belt this way without having to move the engine.

With the hood open it looked like there was room to do this from the left side, sitting on the seat looking to the front, of the tractor.

After looking at that diagram it seems way simpler than some cars/trucks now a days! I'd have a talk with the dealer after printing off that page!

Resurrecting this old thread as I now have a broken fan belt. Has anybody done this? I am hoping that if I unbolt the drive shaft it will slide enough towards the transmission so that the belt can be slipped off.

Thanking you in anticipation. John

I just had to do this replacement, and it only took me about an hour once I figured out how to do it. You do have to disconnect the drive shaft; but it's surprisingly easy to do. Unbolt 4 bolts (I think they're 12 mm) that hold the drive shaft flange to the engine. Then unbolt the engine slides from the frame (I think there are 4 16mm bolts plus a ground and some other things). Take a breaker bar and you can easily slide the engine forward the inch or so that you need to give clearance. Slide the belt over/behind the radiator fan blades, loosen the bolts on the voltange regulator and it will give you enough room to slide the belt over all three pulleys.

For some reason this seemingly simple belt replacement is crazy on a lot of tractors. I put one on a Mahindra that required the motor mount be unbolted and the motor jacked up to allow the belt to be installed.
