I read a SC hunting forum and someone posted a thread that he was bush hogging at his hunt club this morning and one of the blades on his bush hog broke off and it was thrown into one of the rear tires! Scary!!

I guess he didn't check the blades and spindals before he went out. At least is was a tire and not a leg it stuck into.

I'm guilty of that also. I haven't checked the blades on my deck since I put it back on in April.
But then again, I'm just mowing my yard.

Glad no one was hurt thats the important thing.

I don't check my blades and spindles each time before I mow either, and don't plan to.

More scary when you find a thrwn blade and see how far it went after going thru the bushog skirt.

Hey Kebo...I saw that one too. I log into the SC Hunting forum quite regularly and sometimes post.

A random occurance. Kinda like lightning. You don't lean against a steel tower during a thunderstorm, and you don't walk alongside a working rotary cutter. But there's not much else that can be done.

My dealer said he lost a blade once and it went thru both sides of his back tire and another 200 feet out thru the grass. The blade had broke at the pin. This is one of those things that you cant anticipate. A bushhog is not like an aircraft turbine that you inspect every time you use it and magnetic particle/dye penetrant test the blades at certain intervals. You just have to use caution and keep onlookers out of the area. I flinch every time I pass a roadside mower. Beyond danger of broken blade is the possibility of slinging some hidden trash at you.
