Saved two strays but lost my little buddy.

The other day I had my dogs out in the fenced in area so they could run and play and do their business. I noticed a strange black dog running near my pond so I brought my pups inside. Then I saw that there were two black dogs loose. I got a couple of pics and went to my local FB page to post them. Sure enough there were others posting pics of them as well.

I decided to see if they would come to me. They were a bit hesitant but came over. I thought if I could unlock the shop they would go in. Unfortunately when I was trying to unlock the door, one of them went up on the front porch and attacked my old cat Moe. I ran as fast as I could with a bad knee, but old Moe did not make it. He ran off but I found him dead a while later.

I was able to get the dogs in the shop and contact their owners. At least the pups were safe. They had run almost 5 miles from their home in town. I'll miss old Moe, but I'm not sure he would have made it another winter.

Sometimes good deeds come with consequences...

Once you find the owner of those dogs, you should be asking for compensation for their irresponsibility.

What do you ask for, $50, $100, $200, $1000? I could not ask for money, it just seems not right and it won't bring Moe back

I have dogs as well, and I know **** can sometimes happen you have no control over. I know how grateful I would be if the shoe was on the other foot.
You should have seen how happy those pups were to see their people and vise versa.

Accidents happen, but some situations are an accident waiting to happen. Did the dogs have collars, licenses, and owner identifications on them? These would be indicators that the owner cares for the dogs vs. letting them roam free and unattended.

"Failure to confine a canine" is a legal charge that carries some consequence. Hopefully, the owners understand that they did something wrong and will correct it to avoid future issues.

No it won’t.
But morons who let their dogs stray into other people’s properties and kill other people’s pets need to be held accountable.
If they don’t feel the sting of a financial penalty, they will just do it over & over again.

This country has a HUGE lack of accountability for their actions.

Anyone lets their pets come over and kill my pets on my property is getting a knock on the door with animal control or the cops with me.
