I have a 4WD S370D I picked up from my Dad a couple months back. He purchased it new in 1979 and overall, it's in good shape. I've changed all filters, fluids, fuel lines, and generally put in all the correct nuts, bolts, pins, etc. that inevitably get lost through the years and replaced with whatever was handy at the moment. I have 3 questions I could use some help with:

1) Steering box - what is the proper lubricant to use here? Also, it doesn't look there's an access port - do you just remove the top of the box with steering column, etc to lubricate it?

2) Rear PTO seal - I have a small leak of transmission fluid from the rear PTO shaft. This is the native shaft of the tractor - not the shaft from the PTO reverser box. Can someone tell me the specifications for this seal and provide highlights of the procedure to replace it?

3) Fuel Tank cap - I get a fine spray of fuel coming out on the top of the tank especially if its over half full. My fuel cap doesn't have a gasket - I will get one but I'm curious what's supposed to be there? Is it a simple round 1-3/4" gasket with the rubber or cork material about 1/4" - 3/8" wide? or is it a solid disk with perhaps a small hole for pressure relief?

Thanks in advance for the help!

On the steering box. You likely can fill it through a bolt hole in the side plate.

On the gas cap...my guess is it is some kind of rubber...but it seems like any gasket material would work...at least temporarily. I'll have to check my manual for the seal proceedure. I have one for an mt372.

I believe somebody found a Kubota fuel cap that works in place of the Satoh. Or maybe it was Yanmar. Dunno.

For sure the cap would be generic, check Kubota Kioti etc for a replacement.
Bring the old one with you to compare.
I lost my Mitsu cap and found a Kubota that fitted. (I now have a tether affixed)

Any notion of what cap you used?

Not sure but could have been B7000 or 7100 cap.
Just bring your old one along and let them match it up.

In my case I traced a cardboard pattern on the tank filler neck and we got lucky.

There is a venting hole and it does want a gasket to seal tight. (maybe a canning jar rubber gasket might fit)

I ended up cutting down a 2" rubber gasket (1/16" thick) to fit. Works great - no more seepage on top of the gas tank. Thanks!
