Any chance of some advice on steps needed to split the s379d. Got the clutch package, a good floor to roll on ,but not quite clear on some finer details....like which end remains stationary,do I need a pilot shaft? Any thoughts?

Here's what I did with my S370D: Adjusted stands to hold the front half of the tractor as it sat, I put them towards the rear of the motor. This way the front half of the tractor would stay stationary and at approximately the normal height/stance. Then I used my shop jack under the rear portion. I put the jack up until it just made contact with the rear portion. Now there's where it can be a little tricky, my tractor was slightly rear end heavy to where the back portion wanted to tip backwards. So you will have to adjust your jack accordingly. I left my 3pt on so that may have been why. Then I undid all the necessary bolts, wiring, linkages etc and split it between the motor and bell housing. The rear end rolled back easily on the jack, may be easier with a helper for sure. From there it's easy to replace the clutch. I made a quick tool to center the clutch disk, super simple nothing big. Upon advise from others I went ahead and removed the tunnel from the rearend and made sure the coupler at the front of the transmission was tight and not loose. Easily done while tractor was split. I went ahead and removed the set screws on the coupler and put loc-tite on them then put the tunnel back on. Reassembly was simple, just reverse of year-down. I did go to the hardware store and buy some really long metric bolts I could use in place of the bell housing bolts as a guide to align it and slide two halves back together. Once together I removed the long bolts and reinstalled the normal short ones. I'm sure I'm going through what I did quickly so let me know any other specific questions you may have. As a side note the guy before me had apparently damaged the pilot bearing when installing a new clutch Kit so that's all I had to replace while in there.

I have the same noise and was already thinking I was going to have to split the tractor. I had figured on replacing the clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing. So if this shaft has shifted forward, what other parts would I need before splitting the tractor? I assume the pilot bearing would be minimum. Also, I have a pretty healthy axle seal leak. I figure this would be a good time to work on that as well.

I was told if shaft walked forward first it would ruin pilot bearing. If continued to run it could damage nose of the shaft which can be trouble to find.
