Satoh Beaver S-370D
I need some help

I bought a Satoh Beaver 370 and it worked great for two days, then as I was backing up it stopped moving. Sometimes I can get it to move a few feet then it stops. The pto seems to be affected too. I thought it needed a clutch, so I pulled the motor and replaced the clutch, but it didnt help. Any ideas??

Thanks
Jim

possible bent or broken gear forks causing the gear not to engage.check the position of all your control levers.

I took the shifter cover off and all seems well in the trany,

With the pto engaged, I could turn it by hand with the clutch engaged,

From the drawings in my manual, I think the shaft coupler before the trany must have stripped splines or something...I wish there was a inspection cover so I could check to be sure before spliting the tractor again.

I think I will save this for a weekend in the winter, got to concentrate on building a shop, so I have a place to work in.

Thank for the suggestion

do you have a hi lo med range gear lever on that tractor?

it could be stripped splines gears etc.it could also be that a lever could be in between gear position.on my d 1850 there is a lever on the left side that gets knocked out of gear sometimes and the symptom is just like you described.

It just has high and low, I will double check to make sure that it is working properly before I take it apart.

There is a neutral position on the range shifter but the PTO shouldn't be uncoupled from the main shaft if the range is in neutral.

If the pto is not working, it has nothing to do with the shift forks. It probably is the splined coupler that connects the trans input shaft with the clutch shaft.

This is what I think as well, will I need to replace both shafts or just the coupler, I guess it depends if the splines are damaged. Do you know whether it is splined or if it just has a key or a pin?

Thanks
