Satoh 650G
Asking for a friend, should this tractor use an internal resistor coil or external resistor coil? 4cyl Mazda motor 1970 I think?? We think the coil is bad. Coil outside says use external resistor but it does not have one in the 12 volt line from the ignition. Also, should there be a wire from the starter to the negative side of the coil? Thanks

If it's a Satoh the motor is more likely to be Mitsubishi than Mazda. Mitsubishi owns or did own Satoh. If you have a wire from the starter to the negative side of the coil it could be to bypass any ballast resistor during starter operation. The best source I've found for information about Satoh / Mitsubishi tractors is Valley Power

Satoh 650-g is a MAZDA motor--same one as a 626 sedan car!---I have a 650 -g that I did use at one time.---never had an ignition problem in the 6 years that I ran it and it was still running when I last used it.

Did it have a resistor in the line from the ignition??

I will have to look at the ignition on it. ---- I never have, so don't know what it has.

Looked at my 650----no resistor in the line,----must be in the coil.
