If you can save that much money by crossing the border, why don't you use some of that money to buy a nice flat bed trailer. You could haul the tractor in for servicing and have it for other uses. Unless you buy a 20' 14k goose neck, you can buy a lot of trailer for under $5,000.
BTW: I have owned a Grand L 4610 for 10 years and it has never been back to the dealers for repairs.

Dozernut - I will need more than that. I'll need a truck to begin with!.

Seriously though. With some trouble I can arrange for freight from an equipment hauler I have located. I had a quote of $1100 when I asked one to get a tractor all the way from Texas!. The catch is that I have to find a way to unload it here - dock or get a roll off truck. Either that or a friend has offerred me his Ram 2500 Cummins and I'm sure I could find a car hauler to borrow even if I just advertised locally and offerred to pay to borrow it for the weekend.

Although I have no real reason to sell my almost new L3400HST with 68 hours, I have contemplated doing it - taking a substantial loss - $5 to $6K CDN - depreciation and taxes (ouch!) but purchasing a L3240, L3540 or L3940 in the USA at a bargain given the exchange rates. I could be in a L3240 for $3k more than what I could sell my used L3400HST for after trucking the machine here myself and paying taxes at the border. Is it worth the hassle... I don't really know. Maybe more worth the hassle for a L3540 or a L3940.... but I don't really NEED either of them as the L3400HST is doing just fine and I have a billion other things I could spend money on. It is tempting though.

Was looking at the L3940 deal that Barlow has and for the same price as a L3940 here with no backhoe I can get a L3940 with a backhoe in the USA. That's pretty significant!

Yes, it would be tiring pulling a trailer loaded with a tractor behind your 10 speed bike LOL. All manufacturers once in a while produce a lemon! Unless you happen on to one of those, the tractor will not be going back to the dealer for repairs very much if any. Service is a different dog and pony show, I do my own. Good luck on your decision!

I bought a L5240earlier this year now 82 hours on it. The tractor has been great but I have had problems with the factory loader, quick attach and Kubota 3rd remote.

Do not get the Kubota brand 3rd remote!!!, get the WR Long!

I have been somewhat dissapointed in the Kubota response in trying to get some issues taken care of.............think I got a lemon and very dissapointed after looking for 5 years.

Hi SCdolphin,
I have a L4240 and had 1 remote put on, It was leaking down. The dealer put a new one on and it also leaked down. I well not go into all the BS the service mang. was trying to feed me. The the bottom line, I said lets wait for awhile and let the bad valves in the pipe line get out. He said ok, but I think he said that because I wasn't buying what he was telling me.
I thing the valve body's ID and the spool OD are not right.

I'm going to look into the WL Long valves and see if they well work for me.

There has to be a service bulletin coming out soon. I'm not the only one with the same trouble.

When you say "3rd remote", are you refering to the rear remotes, or are you refering to the so-called 3rd function on the loader joy stick (push buttons on the stick handle)?

I'm planning to get BOTH the 3rd function on the loader stick, AND all three rear remotes.

What sort of problem were you having?

I have a l5740 cab, turbo and love it, I had a nh 3040 and let me tell you it was garbage. The 5740 is the bomb. Wouldnt take anything for it. As far service man i would save the money and spend it in the USA. we love it when you canadians do that eh. Kubota's truly are bulletproof

Our GL5240 also had problems with the electric joy-stick-mounted 3rd remote (for a bucket grapple and snowblower chute elevation). The dealer had a factory rep come and the new valve works OK so far. They found lots of debris blocking an internal screen, and removed the screen. I am hoping the problem does not return.

When everything is working, the 5240 is a joy to use.
