That sounds great! I haven't gotten the shop manual yet So I've been wary of making any adjustments to something I didn't fully understand:)

Where did you adjust the throttle linkage? At the HST pedal end? Or up near the oil filter?

Did the adjustment affect the normal HST mode?

Thanks in advance - Talon Dancer

I have not done mine yet but the throttle just has a cable from the pedal to the pump. You just need to adjust it longer. I very seldom have need for the auto throttle so adjusting it back just has not been a priority.

I've getting dangerously close to buying a 5740 HSTC, and want to do a quick satisfaction check among current owners. Any issues, problems, etc? The searching I've done suggests Kubota did real well for a first model year.

My major complaint is the poor loader contol set up. I tried several and they were all the same. Dealer got a new tractor in last week and it works much better. He is checking with Kubota about the issue. It only seems to effect the cab model as the control lever is mounted diferently.

Thanks. I'll give it a try today and report back.

I loked hard at the M, but no mid PTO. I wanted the cab & snowblower combo for the drifts I get. No more truck plows, snow banks or cold days with the FEL moving snow !!!!!!!!! :)

Take the right side off and you can see were the throttle cable and the auto throttle go. Don't start the tractor, with the auto throttle engaged work the hst foot control and you can see how they work together and just delay one by the adj. nuts on the cables.
It didn't do anything with the hst. as you push hst down the rpm well still pick up fast if you need more power. I haven't used it with the loader yet, but see it should be ok.
Just adjust it the way you want it to work. It took me 2 or 3 time to get it the way I wanted it.
It's real easy to do and I think you like it better. If not just adjust it back the way it was.

I have a 3240HSTC and don't have any complaints..what is yours on the loader controls?I have been working for a month now to dig out a acre pond of silt and deepen it slightly. The only complaint is on my end not upgrading to the larger loader.Full bucket wants to stick in the goo and not lift until the suction is broken.

The lever is difficult to move, does not return from the lower position reliably, the lever and quadrant shape makes it difficult to control 2 funtions at a time. It is controled by 2 cables on some type of rocker with a short lever. I think the rocker coupled with a short lever is the issue. The hydraulics are also too fast with short lever movment. My B & BX are both superior in hydraulic control.

Point taken...it can be difficult sometimes but you just have to get the "feel of it" Mine has likage but no cables that I know of. It has very quik response with the engine turning at 2000-2200 RPM.

Leejohn and kevinj,

Thanks guys! Your suggestions allowed me to fix the only serious issue I had with my GL3240 :)

For those interested in how to do this adjustment...
I adjusted the Auto Throttle cable linkage near the Oil filler cap (it's the lower one) making it longer as kevinj suggested. This allows the HST pedal to be depressed a little bit _before_ the Auto Throttle cable engages the engine's throttle control arm. This works in both forward or reverse. :)

Its great to be able to move the tractor around (e.g. when switching from the bucket to the pallet fork, or jockeying into position for using the back-hoe) without having the engine reved up or fiddling with the hand throttle. The "Cruise Control" lever still works like an infinitely variable gear shifter. But it is no longer needed to keep from revving up the engine just to move the tractor. FWIW I adjusted my Auto Throttle cable so that at 1,000RPM (on level ground) the tractor will travel at roughly 1mph with the "Cruise Control" lever OFF and roughly 4mph with it full ON.

Thanks again for the great tip -- Talon Dancer

How about a hypothetical question to add to this discussion.

Given that the 40 series is a first year model with some increased complexity (HST+) would any of you buy it if it didn't come with Kubota's warranty and without local dealer support?

I ask because if.... hypothetically again.... I were to spring for one, I'd be getting it across the border for a savings of about $4K - $5K after accounting for all costs. I would get no warranty whatsoever and would run the risk of Kubota dealers not wanting to service my machine even if I paid for repairs since it is 'grey market' (some free trade eh?).

My *guess* is that unless I got a real lemon I'd be ok. It is a Kubota after all and the odd repair could be handled by a local non Kubota mechanic.

If you can save that much money by crossing the border, why don't you use some of that money to buy a nice flat bed trailer. You could haul the tractor in for servicing and have it for other uses. Unless you buy a 20' 14k goose neck, you can buy a lot of trailer for under $5,000.
BTW: I have owned a Grand L 4610 for 10 years and it has never been back to the dealers for repairs.
